Came across these consecutive star notes today: A 00097591* A 00097592* All Series 2009 Do they command a premium if they're consecutive? PICS BELOW
Welcome to Coin Talk. Please provide denomination, series (year), prefix & suffix letters, and condition.....or better yet, some photos.
Not really, the serial numbers on these notes are not 'fancy' nor are they particularly low serial numbers. Both of those factors and the star can help increase collector interest in a given note(s) but remember that condition and rarity of the notes tends to have more to do with placing a value on notes, especially so with new series when there is an abundant supply of them still out there. So if these notes were taken from circulation or even handled by a teller at a bank, given directly to you they are not likely going to be 'Gem grade' notes that collectors may seek and pay more for. Collectors demand based on the above factors determines where the price may go beyond face, which is pretty much what your notes are probably worth right now, $2.
I would say its a solid CU grade. It came out of a BEP pack. I can smell the crispness from an arms-length away!
Don't they all technically come out of a BEP packs? I still only give them $2 based on above mentioned factors.
Alright then, guess I'll have to lock them up good and wait 10 years or so... I looked up the notes at mycurrencycollection.com. It says these notes were out of a Run Size of 640,000, but that Total Printed was 3,840,000. Whats the difference between run size vs. total printed? I read somewhere that star notes of 640,000 or less are worth keeping. Does this mean that the collectability is yet to be determined? Thanks for all the info.
Yes, it's yet to be determined and could be a lot lot longer than 10 years waiting. 640,000 would be the total printed during one print run. So there may be 640,000 for each FRB district who ordered notes from the BEP for this series. If you multiply by 6 and you get 3,840,000, the total printed for the Series, so far reported/know. I don't know yet if any of those districts took more than one run or not. Someone else can chime in with numbers for each district so far reported or you can dig around on the BEP site for the published monthly and annual production numbers. However those figures are not really broken down in the fashion you are probably looking for.
So far the series 2009 $1 denomination has had 3 short run (640,000) star districts. Boston A00000001* thru A00640000*, New York B03200001* thru B03840000* and Chicago G00000001* thru G00640000*, as seen here http://www.uspapermoney.info/serials/f2009_s.html. There may be more before the series is finished. I would keep them, but as Chris has mentioned, there is no added premium for the serial numbers being consecutive.
Apologies in advance for bumping an old thread. What if the run isn't two, but 40? I have 40 $1 2013 B03678460-500 in stellar condition. I know this was a big run, but still this is a cool find.
