I picked up a counterfeit Bust right half dollar last year at a flea market. NGC confirmed it was a fake. It is the non-turbine head type. It looks like the design was etched on the surface, it is lightweight, the rim is higher than the surface; an 1807. Sw an article in Coin World on counterfeit Bust halves being worth something if they are contemporaries of that time. Even Bowers is running a counterfeit $10 lead piece in its Long Beach Auction. It does not say "copy" on it.
So... you must have known it was fake when you bought it, so why did you send it to NGC? How much did you pay for it?
Only contemporary counterfeits I have ate 1856 flying eagle 1870 half dollar 1924 st.gaudens 1925 st.gaudens Both gaudens are lightweight with no edge lettering. Weigh in at 12.5 grams
Counterfeits can be worth money. Like I said Bowers has a lead $10 counterfeit from around 1800 in its auction this week.
