I'm wondering if someone would be able to provide me the mintages for the following coin and years 1822 through 1830. GERMAN STATES HANNOVER 16 Gute Groschen KM# 138, years 1822-1830 I'm looking at a couple for sale at Heritage, and I don't have access to the mintages. If you prefer to post the mintages in a private message I'm fine with that. Thanks so much! -Brandon
Thanks so much for checking for me Mat. I'm having a devil of a time finding any information about how common this coin is. I picked up an 1828 16GG graded NGC MS64 today, and there are a few other dates for sale at the Heritage sale ending this week. Below is the one I snagged today. It's a beauty!
Yep, I sure do! Mostly post-1500 coins with horses, as I can't afford most of the ancients. I would love to get my hands on some of the ancients, but there are SO many with horses it is hard to focus.
I have checked some of my German catalogues and I can confirm the mintages are not given. They are probably just not known. As a type, the 16 Groschen pieces 1822-1830 are not scarce - you see them quite often. What is special about you coin is the condition it is in.
Thank you Eduard. I got the impression that there were a lot of these 16GG coins around (I see a lot), but there are not very many in MS64 condition. Several sold tonight at the Heritage auction and none were graded MS64. There were a few MS63 coins, and the one I picked up looks to be a fantastic strike among even those. I just fell in love with the image of the Saxon Steed...that is one beautiful horse design! Thanks for the information again. I really appreciate it!
From what I know of European history, Germany didn't exist at that time. Your best bet, as far as searching online, is probably searching for "Prussia" or "Hannover" to get more information. And that's gorgeous!
