Should we keep an eye on high grade Roosevelts?

I was at a coin show this weekend. One of the sellers suggested that I should start collecting high grade silver Roosevelts. His reasoning was that once Nancy Reagan passes away, there would be a likelihood that Ronald Reagan would be put on the dime, thus replacing FDR. Since it is the only U.S. circulation coin to be unchanged in so many years (although the Kennedy half hasn't really) in design, in his reasoning, this would create more demand for high grade Roosevelts. Now, I find many problems with this. One, I read about the idea of putting Reagan on the dime, about six or seven years ago, and I'm not so sure that people would back (and Nancy didn't back it either) legislation that removed Franklin Roosevelt on the dime. And, even if that happened, how would that create a demand for Roosevelts? I don't know. That is why I am posting it on Coin talk. I'd love to hear any opinions on this matter. I know that Roosevelts are overlooked. Personally, I've started collecting high grade Silver Washington quarters because I think they are overlooked. And, I like them for some reason.
P.S. This was my first coin show and it was very exciting to chat with other coin aficionados. I still have SO much to learn.

I really like silver Roose's...but I don't think they are going to soar in price. I really can't imagine FDR being taken off the dime either. There has been a push in the past to put Reagan on a coin (and the dime has been mentioned)...but I just don't see enough support to remove Roosevelt, or any President currently on a coin for another President. Not to diverge into politics...but Reagan is considered my many to be a great President, I am not disputing that in anyway. But, I don't think his greatness is enough to remove Lincoln, Jefferson, FDR, Washington or JFK off their coins. I just don't see it happening.

Dimes are too small for most collectors to ever get a great number of collectors. When looking at the registries one will note that the larger coins always have more sets registered. It takes a eagle eye collector to go for the smaller coins and big hunks of silver are always going to have more fans.
Now the fact that there are less chasers usually means they are less costly for the collector to collect. But the old saying still usually is best "Collect what You like and like What you collecct".

I disagree with this statement. The most collected US coin is the Lincoln Cent and it has a greater diameter of 1.1mm...not that much different.

If FDR comes off the dime, I believe there will be a demand. People will focus on the set because it could be completed, and relatively inexpensively. Thus the price will go up for the premium grades. That being said, I don't see FDR coming off the dime anytime soon. JMHO.

FDR will not be take off the dime. You may recall that FDR helped start the March of Dimesin 1938 to help fight against polio. Their big thing was getting people to donate dimes to the cause. Its the reason he was put on in 1946. To take him off would be a shame I think.

I was going to mention that. Didn't he end up also dying from Polio? This was the little known reason he is on the dime and thanks for sharing.

That said, they could pick an interesting date and retire him from the dime whenever they want IMO. It's been a long run. I would like to see something else. Hopefully it doesn't involve 5 different designs a year though.

When we will get away from dead president coinage and return to artistic designs. I do collect many coins with dead presidents on them, but I long for the days of the beauty of the Walking Liberty Half, the Merc Dime, and the many renditions of Lady Liberty...

I agree as well. It is time to retire our dead presidents for a while. Even if the mint does not agree I do not think Reagan will end up on any coin, he just was not historical enough, popular sure but just not important enough IMHO.
