IMHO, if you want a "TYPE" coin from the Morgan series, get one of the 1878-P Morgans.
    - The 8 tail feathers
    - 7 tail feathers/PAF
    - 7 tail feathers/Slanted Arrow Feather

One of those three would be great for any type set.

To me, the "ugliest" looking Morgans are the 1921 coins. The Morgans from 1878 to 1899 are the best looking of the series. Again, this is my opinion.

I respectfully disagree. I think the 1880-S or 1881-S are the best Morgan's for a type set. They are by far the best consistently struck coin in the series and are readily available in high grade.

Something doesn't sit right with me about this coin.

Is that a rim ding at the 4 o'clock? Plus, I'm going with "over dipped" on this one.

Maybe if they can get them past here (like a testing ground) they are satisfied that no more tweaking is required and production can begin.

Silver coins develop an oxidation layer on their surface as they age. Depending on how they are stored determines how thick this oxide layer is. Sometimes it can be very colorful and actually add to the beauty of the coin and other times it can be very ugly and make the coin look bad. It can even be damaging to the coin if enough is present. As a result, chemical dips have been developed...coins are dipped in these solutions to remove the toning. However, the toning is integrated into the molecular structure of the surface of the coin. So, the dipping actually removes a tiny bit of the surface. If this is done properly, the coin looks new and undamaged. If the coin is over dipped, it begins to lose it's luster and starts to have a dull appearance. I don't know if you saw it...but I made the first response in this thread and my initial thought about this coin was it had been over dipped.

In the world of "Morgan Dollars"... There are a TON of FAKES.

Buying a "raw" Morgan outside the USA (and even inside it) can be tricky. There are many many books on Morgan dollars (in English) that can help you with collecting them. Would encourage you to check out Amazon.com and get a Morgan Red Book. If you have the resources and are planning to become a serious Morgan addict, get a VAM Book, too. History, mintages, crap to watch out for, etc.

An other good resource for you here.

Unfortunately given your location in the world, you are not in the Morgan dollar capital of the world. Nevertheless, there are places like Teletrade.com and Heritage that you can browse their auctions and see what a "PCGS Genuine" coin looks like vs an unadulterated coin.

The resources and knowledge is out there. Go go go!
