PCGS slab error

Does anyone have a PCGS slab error? I imagine there are not too many out there as they are pretty meticulous with their methods. I have a 1909p 1c MS65RD that is in a 1909 VDB MS65RD holder and was wondering if these kind of "overlooks" are common. I will post pics when I get my camera back. Thanks,

Haha....I love how we pay these TPG companies to do a job and they don't do it right! I guess that brings me to my next question....Will a TPG company re-slab a coin they mislabeled at no charge? Thanks

There not common and also they sell for a lot on ebay. People buy error slabs and collect them.

It won't. They grade hundreds of thousands, if not millions of coins a year. Mistakes happen.

 

is it just me or does it seem like it is more common to see PCGS slab errors than NGC? Keep in mind I am speaking off the top of my head without any statistical support but based on what I have seen it seems as such to me. I am wondering what others think.

 

To be honest......I have never seen a NGC slab error. I'm sure there are some out there, but none that I have held in my hand. I have seen a few PCGS slab errors (other than mine), but I can count them on one hand.

To Merc's post....they do grade millions a year and errors are bound to happen. It still boggles my mind on how they happen. They are supposed to check and double check before they send them back to you.

They catch most. The errors are usually due to someone filling out the submission form improperly. I will say that's one part of PCGS's QC that is lacking.

 

One more thing I wanted to mention. While being an error slab may not bring a premium for being an error it could potentially be worth more or less based on what the going price is for the coin it was incorrectly listed as. For the sake of integrity, I think everyone should send the coin back to the TPG or just keep it. However you must always be aware that some may not share this view or have the same integrity and as it was said, you should always look at the coin regardless of what the slab says. So buy the coin and not the slab!

 

Folks do collect these but don't pay much for them.

 

I have never seen an NGC slab error....not saying there are none out there, but I think they do a better job making sure what they grade is whats on the label. I have seen PCGS errors with wrong date and wrong mintmark on them.....thats just bad! No checking their work.
