Is this 1940 nickel a mint error?

    Is this 1940 nickel a mint error? The edges are raised with the text most of the way up the edges.

    Yep, just a "spooned" coin. I keep these though, as I find them interesting.

    I've never seen any of those myself~

    I cant think the quarter would be a mint error...will see what others say...

    doesnt seem like it. it looks like someone did that to the coin. but i cant say for sure.

    No for both of them, as someone already mentioned, the first has been spooned. And the second probably was machined or bacam so corroded and brittle, it broke off....

    Both of your coins are post mint damage.
