I was looking at an ok antoninianus of Antoninus Pius (which I believe yo have a quite lovely example of?), which I may get since its hard to find one I can afford.

Very nice reverse type. Serapis is Osiris incarnate (Osiris was the father of Horus, the Egyptian sun god) so I am very biased to this reverse. I still need to find one like this.

Thank you :) Yeah Serapis seems like it would make a fun theme to collect.

Great portrait. It captures the evil brutality of the man...unlike this charming image:

    Woow :thumb:

What a beautiful collection of Plautilla coins.

What a great link. Is this your collection? I especially appreciate the attributions and background numismatic information.

I especially like this "dated" coin from Cappadocia with the Mt. Argaeus on the reverse:

    Plautilla, Cappadocia.jpg

Cappadocia, Caesaraea - Eusebia), AD 205.
ΦΟΥΛΟΥΙ ΠΛΑΥ ΑΥ, draped bust right
ΜΗΤΡΟ ΚΑΙCΑ, Agalma of Mt. Argaeus with star. In ex., CΤΙΓ : regnal year 13 of Sept. Severus, 205 AD

What got you into the coins of Plautilla?

Hey, can I use the image of your Plautilla Cappadocia coin on a future post about "dated" Roman coins at a non-numismatic site? If I use the image, I'll give you a "shout-out." :eek:ld-guy-smile:

Once again, good stuff. These coins make Ancient history come alive.

    Thanks Guy for the feedback

Yes, it's my collection, of course (and the others "potator's galleries" too)
What got me into Plautilla ? I wanted an empress, not a too big series I would be certain not to achieve in a lifetime, and Caracalla : he must have been so naughty with his wife that I wanted to do something nice for her (but I didn't tell him, of course )

Sure you may use the pic. Please just give credit. This drachm from Cappadocia is extremely rare as far as I know

She was the second empress I ever acquired. Ive always liked your set of hers, that drachm is really cool.

Debating on a Limes of her I found but I dunno, dont own any limes or fourees...New month/new budget....what to choose, lol.
