I am a big fan of 1940's silver centavos minted here in the US! Nice variety you have!

    Thanks for sharing

I found my first Philippine silver coin with a metal detector in 1974 and did not know what it was. After doing some research, pre Google and the internet, I learned the history and fell in love with those coins. I have several US Philippian coins in my collection now, but have to wonder, do they still like US?

A 1944-S US-Philippine 10 centavos is the first coin I remember owning. I was 4 years old and we were being shown around our empty new house by its previous occupants when I spied that little critter lying on the wooden floor. Although the adults in my family told me I had to return it, the previous occupants, two little old ladies whose husbands had apparently served in WWII, told me I could keep it. :)

I have read that the Philippine P1.00 of 1906S is a tough one to find. Have you ever seen one??

This is just a poor-quality scan. The actual coin looks much better than this:

    Collector1966,

Even if a poor scan, that is a good strike for that issue. Many of these coins I have seen, have weak strikes on either or both sides, some missing detail without any signs of wear.

I LOVE that Macarther coin. I picked one up a year ago for about 8 bucks (before the silver run up).

Here's another MacArthur peso. It's probably one of the weak strikes you were talking about.

I've been meaning to buy one of those.... How much did yours cost?? My great-grandfather was in the Honor-Guard from 1947-49, Japan, he was one of the "closer" guards, and even a personal escort for Hirohito alot of the time.

Ironically, I bought both of my pesos in Japan. The "defender and liberator of the Philippines" had "defended and liberated" the Philippines from Japan! I bought the second (weakly struck) peso for 2100 yen last May. I guess that's close to $27 now. The better struck peso was bought at around the same time, for 2600 yen, which would be around $33. The poster who bought his peso for $8 got a good deal.

It's interesting hearing about your great-grandfather. I met another person here on CoinTalk whose uncle had spent a lot of time in Japan after the war.

I saw a raw proof 1906 Philippine peso being offered for sale the other day. It has really nice album toning and nice frosted devices, but like every single silver peso I've ever seen, it has a lot of hairlines (mostly on the obverse). I'm wondering what would be a reasonable price for such a coin.

The value of one full grade below it's current rating.

I got this coin in May.

The dealer has a couple more but I like to think that I picked the best one he had.
