the 2003 to 2006 jefferson nickels are safe for collecting and will be prevented from price downward movement. why? because the bullion value of nickels are already near its face value. and the u.s. mint will soon change its composition to produce them. when? maybe next year or so. it might be steel plated with cupro-nickel. just like the canadian nickels. no wonder very few new nickels circulated now. also the common date nickels dated before 1969. you will pay fifteen cents to buy them at least.

I tell you what....people here in KY just are nuts....any coin anyone says is hard to find....Nickels....the new Buff Nickels the Peace Nickels etc....all circulate here....in fact talking about how nickels don't circulate a few years back I saved up a bank bag full of nickels....all before 2004....from 1938-2003 and I know that all of them went back in change....also I've gotten a good amount of nickels in change today....nope sorry but I don't think we will see the nickel changing to steel plated cupro nickel.

    nickels composition near face value

the nickels composition were near its face value. now at $.044. not to include all other charges. if included, it already surpassed its face value to make a nickel for general circulation. all other countries always change its composition when this happened. the u.s. too has change or reduce its metals or sizes. one example is the lincoln penny. starting 1982. it became steel plated with copper. 97.5% zinc and 2.5% copper. weight 2.5 gram. before it is 95% copper and 5% zinc. weight 3.11 gram.

It's amazing that I yet to see a 2006 jefferson in circulation here! I'm not sure why these aren't getting out, at least here in northern Michigan.

Looks like I'll have to buy these for a premium instead of expecting them in my change at face value. :(

    2006 return..... (d) $4.50 / roll

these were bank roll offered by most well-known dealers published at most coin magazines and newspapers. i don't recommend buying u.s. mint roll. simply every items were sold too many. like american bison. sold more than 700,000 set. while bank roll have a long history since the beginning. and you got a price list from most coin magazines and dealers. and nickels roll prices were from 1938 to present. all were above face value. the lowest i think is $3.75 and highest is $3,400.00. note: bank rolls were sold less than 5,000 roll per year.

here are the prices from 1990 to 2003 nickels roll:( p & d) face value all $2.00 per roll.
    1990 12.00, 12.00
    1991 13.50, 13.50
    1992 51.00, 9.50
    1993 13.50, 14.00
    1994 8.75, 8.75
    1995 8.00, 22.00

    HI NDS76
Look in the red book at the 1963 and 1964 nickels that were minted, it is easy to find 1963&64 in
circulation.Much harder to find 1938 to 1962 also a lot of dansco books and other albums go from 1938 to 1962. Because of this I think more people will be looking for the harder to find p-minted coins from 61 &62 because of the amount made for circulation. BUT that is my view ,others may think differently.

Every Jefferson Dansco album I've seen goes from 1938 to present.
Maybe I need to change banks, but 63 and 64 are hardly common finds around here, and also with 74 million and almost 100 million made respectively, 61 and 62 are hardly scarce years.

    2006 (d) jef new design 236.9 m as of mar 31

note: (1) estimated production for 2006 (p & d) is 1 billion. at the end, it should be less than that.
    (2) highest mint sold directly to customers is 2005 am bison 2 roll set at over 700,000 set.
    (3) key date for this series is 2004 peace medal (P). i don't know why?
    (4) lowest mintage is 2004 keelboat (d). but 2004 keelboat (P) have better price.
    (5) american bison is the most popular one. but i don't see any good price in the future.
    (6) what i liked: 2004 keelboat and 2006 jefferson new design.
    (7) what i don't like: 2005 ocean in view

So far I have seen 2 2003-P, 1 2004 Keelboat, and 1 2005-P Ocean in view. That is the sum total of ALL of the post 2002 nickels I have seen in change in the past 3 years and 4 months. And all of those turned up in the past six month.

Even worse for some reason are the 1997 coins. In the past 9 years I have found exactly 7 P and 7 D 1997 nickels in change. All other issues 1965 - 2002 are easy to come by. For some reason the 97's never made it to my area.
