I am just wondering if any of you have attempted to do a complete Federal Reserve Bank Collection of any denomination.
My GFs Sister's friend (he and I talked this weekend) said it would be challenging to do and almost impossible.
So, I am asking you about your experience. Has anyone done this here and if so can you post pictures of this complete set?

I am wondering if you could share with me the cost of such set?
Yes, I am new and learning so please be patient with me on my newb questions.

I am currently in the midst of trying to do the same for the 2009 $1 set. Just through circulation I've found a few districts. It's possible, but you may have to seek help from others on the West Coast.

    Thank you for posting.
What do you mean help from the West Coast? You confused me there a little.

May I ask what district that has you interested? what denomination are you going to try?
The reading I have been doing suggest's that assembly of these bills will be very tough. I am finding that there are a few varities, wide1, wide II, narrow, different seal colors, errors, plate numbers and all sorts of stuff.

So what is your goal? How far along are you?
How has the cost been for you?

All these things I am trying to prepare for and learn.

    Thanks for your reply.

I actually had (3) complete federal reserve sets this weekend with series of 2006... Would of been ten plus, but I came up short with the Minneapolis... It was a strap search, and most were VG...
If your talking about 1929's "Federal Reserve Bank Notes" I'm working on it! Almost have the $50's, but they didn't do a complete FRB run. I think only 7 banks were printed in $50's... I'm pretty sure $5, $10, $20 had complete runs though, and they're not getting any cheaper!

Wait a minute...by "complete Federal Reserve Bank collection", do you mean collecting every FRB for a particular series, or collecting every series for a particular FRB? Because everybody else is talking about the former, but it sounds like you might be asking about the latter....

If you're talking of collecting EVERY note from 1928 to current, with one of each district for all years produced across all denominations, then no, I have not tried that. I believed you were discussing all denominations from a particular run, e.g. 2009 and all districts. I am trying to collect all of those for the $1 right now but since I live on the east coast it is hard for me to find uncirculated examples from the west coast such as San Francisco, Minneapolis, Kansas City, and even Dallas.

Sounds like it would be a task indeed..

One thing I have noticed with the 09 series 1's are a ton of them from District L here in Pa.. seems I see more of those than any other...not sure why...

I suppose I was not very clear. But then, I am not sure how to be really clear so I will give an example.

So lets say that I wanted to collect $5, $ 10 and $20 bills from the Phillie Bank all the way back to the 1928's to now. How hard would that be? I read a thread here about Star Notes and I am blown away by how the older ones look compared to the newer ones. So lets add those in there too. So how long would something like this take and how much would it cost? I cant be to selective with grade because I do not have a ton of money to spend.
    Any ideas?
What about a set that were all new, is that possible as well? I can only imagine what that would cost.

Thanks everyone for the help. you to west coast guy :)

That would be quite a task! I would estimate years of work to assemble a collection like you describe.

There are some notes that are very difficult and expensive for any Federal Reserve District. For example, try to find a 1928 D $5.00 FRN.

Say what! Years? are you serious?
My girlfriends Sister's male companion said he knows a guy trying to do just that. No wonder he said it is impossibile. I have never counted how many that would be but I bet it would be a lot!

Ok so maybe a more practicle approach for me. Maybe $1 bills :)
So I have another question; why try to collect something that is possibily not obtainable? Do not get me wrong, not condeming anyone or any collecting style but come on years to do something like that, I just cant fathom that thought. Where do you keep something like that? How do you protect it? shisters, what do you keep it in?

Don't leave out the 1914! First year of Federal Reserve Notes...
    I would work backwards and stick to $1's for now...Start with the series 2009 C/3, 2006, 2003A, 2003, 2001, etc...

Years? It depends on your budget man. It could take decades. Then again it could only take a year or two at the most if your truely devoted. I'd have to go do some more research to find out how many series have been printed between 1928 and now. Give me a second and I'll explain the math out to you...

Thanks for the very cool site. from my personal reading I see 1 thing not listed on this great web page, that is the different block numbers for the different printings. Maybe I am just missing it but I would think that a set would not be a set with out having every block right? Now comesthe question of how many bills would make up a full set for each denomination? I also suppose that it would add a tremendous amount of time to gather up as well.

I am not sure why my tiny brain is going on like this, I suppose my recent exposure to paper bills has me in study mode. Do you know how many $5 bills would be printed for a certain district? How can I find that out?
This is starting to drive me insane :)

Just poke around the site a little more. Here's a page summarizing the serial ranges of small-size $5 notes. And if you want block lists or serial group lists for each series, they're here for everything from Series 1950 onwards.

Your task is quite a large one. I was saying it could take decades to get evey denomination for every series. But now you also want to collect all blocks for every denomination and every series? Better make sure you stick with this for life if you are content on getting this done. Not unless you have quite an extremem budget haha. None the less, good luck, I hope you get done what you are looking to get done. Let me know what you decide to do in the end. :)

    Oh good heavens, no!
I do not mean that at all. No way could I ever possibly do that.
I mean as an example, say the Phillie Reserve Bank. Collect all $5 bills from 1928 to 2009 in all blocks plus the star bills too. How many bills would that add up to be?
The cost I am sure is more than I would ever think of spending. :)

I am just asking, not planning to do this. As mentioned a person I am talking to says he knows someone doing this for most denominations. I can only think of the cost that would be. Any idea from you?
