Hi guys. I hope someone here can help me decide what to do with this piece, and tell me the value, too. I bought this piece in 2007 in northern Philippines from a native woman. They used 2 reales coins to make a musical instrument they call a 'wedding shaker'. edited I don't know the coin values. Should I remove the coins from the string? I really don't want to do that because I find this really unique.

I have posted close up photos of the individual coins on this site http://s1183.photobucket.com/albums/x479/coinhunk/.

The coins are the following:

1807 Limae JP, Carolus IIII
1785 Limae MI, Carolus III – is this MI or MJ?
1797 Limae IJ, Carolus IIII – holed directly on ‘9’ but tail indicates it’s a ‘9’

Individual holed coins don't have great value unless they're otherwise of great value without the hole. I'd offer it for sale as-is, for what it is.

There is also a strong possibility that none of the coins are genuine. Fakes abound in that part of the world !

Hi guys. I showed the coins to a jewelry and coin shop and the coins turn out to be all silver, and they didn't question the make of the coins. I believe the make of the coins are genuine, too, as I have collected some pillar coins and got some experience with the design. The piece is from a family heirloom and in that part of the country where it came from, the natives neither have knowledge about coins nor tools to even make counterfeits. They value everything for their silver or gold, and they sell everything as is - silver and gold. Just don't know what to do with them. Anyway, I'll just get rid of them at silver value perhaps.
