Hey Ya'll I was looking at a dealer that had some nice Buff Nickels from the teens and 20's...they were priced alright and had ok strikes but the more I looked at the more I wondered.... See the photo of the Buff below....almost all of his Buff's have the same look...flawless and no marks and the same nice simi proof look.....is this something he is doing to his photos or have the coins been tampered with?? Speedy
I've always followed the adage my dad told me, if I get a bad feeling about something I stay away or look twice if there is no other option... Good Luck Fellow Ben
Your dad was smart....that is always the best thing to do....the reason I asked is to make sure #1 that I'm not missing something and #2 so I know next time....the same dealer has a nice 1914 Buff that shows some doubling on some of the letters....I wounder if the coins could be wizzed...I think sometimes that makes the letters look doubled.... Speedy
I decided not to go for this one above...would still like any info on it.... I've found some nice ones on Coin Vault--Clark Smith--and I might go for them!! Speedy
Hey Speedy, there was only one thing that I could tell you that seemed wrong with this particular coin. That would be that it would be in your possission and not mine. I would have taken it if I had needed one of this date.:kewl:
Hey OldDan....thanks for the info!......I don't know if I'll get to bid or not but your welcome to PM me for a link to the seller if you want....they are nice coins!!! Speedy
Dunno - I don't see anything right off. But if all of the coins have a similar look and coloration there is at least one possible explanation - he bought a collection. It rarely happens, but it does occasionaly, that a group of coins in a collection can all take on on similar toning - particularly if they are stored in an album and all of the coins were of similar condition to begin with.
Yep...I think he said that he had bought them all at once...he has about 5-8 like this and they are all really nice and have great strikes....I might watch them but not sure how much they will go for! Speedy
