At a few of the well known used item stores where I go afew times a week trying to find that special item ,They have a new policy of putting a mark on all paper money , I knew it was done on larger bills but $1.00 bills ? I said something about putting the mark on the bill, he replied it will disapear in a few hours ? Are they just being cautious or is fake smaller bills becoming more frequent ? Sandy
I have never seen them do it to a one but recently I have seen them marking fives. I guess some people will try to make a dollar (pardon the pun) any way they can.
The current counterfeiting trend is to use $5 notes and remove the ink, and print a $100 on top... How is the pen method going to catch those? It's not! Still the same cotton/linen paper. The B.E.P./Treasury is pushing retailers to check the security strip for the actual denomination that is printed on it. Checking one's is stupid! The BEP doesn't even bother with modern security with those, and I doubt they will anytime soon. Anyone with experience can feel the difference between printer paper, and cotton/linen paper.
That is what I thought, I told the clerk I collected coins and starting to get into currency now and then, even though it was not vauable it is the principle Sandy
