I got this from a dealer and though it was somthing wrong with it and I saw in coin world that it was a die error, in coin world had the same date. Can you tell me how much more that it is worth with a error???

Your coin looks more like the metal wasn't mixed right.....

well, how much did you pay for it? Becuase he might have charged you more than he should have. I myself would pay less for a gold coin with an error, because it ruins the beauty of the gold.

    Still, very cool!

It does not look like a cud. It looks more like a "shipwreck" coin with encrustations on it. If I were you, I would send it to NCS and see what they think.

Looks like a botched job of a base metal counterfeit with gold plating to me. I'd take it back to the dealer and demand my money back.

    your are probably right GDJMSP

I think it would be smart just to bring to coin back and demand that he gives you your money back!

I could be totally off base here, but my first reaction to this coin is ex-jewelry. It has the look of a coin that has been soldered into jewelry and then taken back out. I would guess that that is why the dealer said it was damaged......

Becky - take another look. You can actually see the where the plating over the base metal has been flaking off the coin in the areas I have marked with red. Even the relief of the plated layer is visible.

It also looks like there may be a tooling mark on the 8 in the date at about 9 oclock.

to tough to tell from quality of these pictures..what is the weight of the coin? 16.7180g is what the coin should weigh. every thing else is pure speculation.

No, it sounds like he has either an authentic coin, or a counterfeit with a correct weight. [IMG]

Don't forget - being significantly off weight is proof that a coin is fake, but correct weight merely means that it has passed one test in the arsenal of the authenticator. ;)

It is the ridht weigh, my scale don't do the the 180g part, it just does the 16.7 not the other .
