The picture on the front is of a horse and buggy. The date is Feb 17th 1864 I'm trying to get a picture uploaded. Our local coin dealer told me it was real but wouldnt give me a price on it. Is there any price range you could give me?
I personally can't stand collecting confederacies. They aren't worth anything face, they are odd shape, and they are usually in horrible condition. I've seen $100 confederate notes sell for $5 bucks just so the person could "get rid of it". This is just my experiences with them though. I'm sure there must be some value in collecting them, especailly since people do. I'm pretty sure you have to find certain types of towns and dates and such to find one anywhere near its minimal face... As for value, we do need to see pic or scan, sorry.
And some people probably can't understand why you would want to collect coins (assuming you collect coins).
Well you shouldn't really assume, pal. I collect what few coins come to me in circulation, but I mainly collect paper money. Ya know, the kind thats actually in worth face even if the collecting market someday crashes.
I do not want to get caught in a flame war here but it seems to me that different collectors may have different taste. TBudwieser said that he likes to collect paper money from 1995 to current and that is his right as a collector. So if I were to say to him, hey why you collecting this junk? He would get defensive really quickly, just as someone might feel if they collect Confederates. So my take on it is TBudwieser should not critisize the collecting habits of lovers of Confederates as I am sure there are many worth way more than face. I saw a book published on Confederate Notes and have looked them up on line as well. I would be pleased to hear from someone here that has a collection of Confererates. So TBudwieser, in my opinion you did not have the right to slam confederates and you should apoligize as you did. I have been reading some threads here by several members with many thousands of post and many images of their bills and all I can is I would never critisize some of what I have seen in these pages. Some guy has some really cool small size bills, I wish I could see them and if any one knows where they might have gone I would love to know. JAF
Woooooahhh calm down man. There is no fight or flame going on here. At least there isn't in my mind. I'm just hanging out on here talking with some people that collect what I collect. Taking in some critical responses and outputting some critical responses. Did you even take the time to read my original post? I said and I quote: "This is just my experiences with them though. I'm sure there must be some value in collecting them, especailly since people do." Read more: http://www.cointalk.com/t191065/#ixzz1WL2FtPUd I apologized for missing your point. Not for posting what I did. People were slamming me as well for '95s. I never took much offense to it as you are. And plus, who are you? When did you jump in the convo? I thought this was between me and hobo.
I am not taking offense at all and I am no one really. I do not even have a collection yet. I have read many threads here and it is really obvious who HoBo is to me. I do manage people and what you said was wrong about Confederates. No I do not collect them either as I can't afford too much right now, but one day look out lol So relax and perhaps even study the Confederates before you condem them all. Hope we can be friends here.
We are friends man. I joined this site to make friends whom have similar interests as I do. I think I may have a misunderstanding of this site. I think I have a misinterpretation of what we are supposed to be doing on here. I originally had joined this site to get different ideas and opinions from different people all over the US. If everyone on here just always smiled and said "buy it, buy it", people would end up with a lotta junky collections, don't you think? I am simply giving the original poster on here an opinion. Simply an idea that he can use to later determine if he really wants the note or not. He does have the rite to collect what he wants, of course. Get what you want, and I hope you do if its what you want. Just a different idea, not a slap in the face. I will not say sorry for posting what I did, but I will say sorry that you took it wrong, I guess I should have reworded it a bit to make it seem more friendlier . My goal on here is to make friends not enemies;to get and give pro and con opinions for various collectors items.
Face value? You have lost your mind! I Stonewall easily fetches several hundred! (Well I guess that $500 Stonewall would go for face LOL) There was this little thing called the Civil War going on, and paper was in short supply and so was the need to make perfect cuts. It would be akin to checking the wood on a gun stock at the factory in the middle of a war - unnecessary... --------------------------------------------------- Back on topic; I think the latter issues go for 25-55 depending on condition. Here is a list of known fake, and repos. Learn it well, cause there are a ton of them on the market! http://www.rebelstatescurrency.com/reproductions.html
+1 ron. There are a lot of fascimilies of the $10 confederate note. You would want to look at the serial number and see if it matches the known reporduction number. If so, it is a fake and not worth anything. If it is genuine, then it's worth is based on its condition. This note had the highest number printed of any confederate note, so it's value is lower compared to other $10 notes printed earlier.
Hey man, I'm just telling you guys what MY experiences with them are. I'm sure just like every aspect of collecting has bills that are worth more and bills that aren't. Don't try to tell me about the Civil War. I am very well educated on it. I do know my history. Maybe the ones I saw go for under face were just low end examples or reproductions (well the coin dealer said it was authentic but...). It was a while ago anyways... Guess I should have bought that $100 for $5 and sold to you guys for $100 . Ya know what they always say "If you don't wanna join em, at least make money on them" lol.
Contemporary counterfeits are very collectible. I have a few myself (of various designs and denominations).
Your note appears to be genuine and should be worth around $25 in its condition (looks to be a Fine example).
