I am at a loss i just got this in change and it has a silver side like old coins.....anyone help with what it is.
The copper does not always show on the edge. A silver proof would weigh in at 6.25 grams where the clad coins is 5.67 grams.
The planchets are punch pressed from a sheet and the outer layer smears when the punch starts to dull same as any industrial punch press.
its probably silver plated . i found one a couple months (Alabama) and it weighs just a liitle over normal weight. others on here have posted they found the same thing ..... silver looking state quarters. i guess some company sold sets of silver plated state quarters and someone spent the set.
