Thank You all for posting some really wonderful coins, I was glued to the computer all night starting from pg 1, and going all the way through. I really enjoyed many of them. My world coin door was cracked, but now its wide open. So many beautiful pcs. Here's a few more that I just got. Although this coin is a pretty common date, it's condition is not. I just love the purple and blues mixing with the darker brown on both sides. The fact that PCGS placed a 66 BN grade amazes me the most as it is not a designation they hand out freely.
coppermania: I am impressed. That Republica Mexicana 1898 Mo Centavo is beautiful, as is the 1935 Estados Unidos Mexicanos 20c. Fantastic coins! Very impressive. I love Mexican coins, from the Spanish Colonial times, up through the modern Estados Unidos. I live pretty much right on the border between the U.S. State of Arizona and the United States of Mexico (I live on the U.S. side), so I have always had an interest in Mexican coins, ever since my family used to vacation every year in Mexico, and I would always try to bring back some shiny pesos, back when we first started going to Mexico for vacation, they were still using the old peso system, not the Nuevo Peso which they started using in the early 1990s, so I loved the large coins with HUGE denominations like 1000 Pesos and such, even though the exchange rate was awful back then, to a kid, 1000 pesos sure seems like a lot of money! So I was collecting Mexican coins back before I was collecting U.S. coins.... or any coins for that matter. -------------- These days I really like the fractional bullion coins of Mexico, like this 1996 1/4 oz Libertad (my most recent Mexican Bullion coin), with a mintage of only 50,000. I also like the earlier design, pre 1996 of the Libertad coins, I have an 1985 1 oz Libertad which I love. I like how my 1985 1 onza has 'INDEPENDENCIA Y LIBERTAD' as edge lettering 'Independence and Liberty' very cool.... the 1996 1/4oz has a reeded edge. They both have just beautiful designs, I think they are some of the best looking silver bullion coins on the market. I would love one of the sets that comes with the 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10th oz and 1/20th oz silver coins. ------------- The first 4 photos are of the 1996 1/4 onza, the last one is a shot showing some of the edge lettering on my 1985 un onza. I am still working on getting pics of the Netherlands 1890 2 1/2 cents as well as all the other interesting world coins I bought a few days ago.
Not anything very special, but while on holydays in Quebec I checked my purse daily and came across a bunch of coin I don't have yet : - A complete set (by type not by date) of 1 ct to 2 CAD featuring the "new" portrait of Elisabeth II - Jubilee nickel and dime (1952-2002) - Alberta 2005 quarter - Cindy Klassen 2006 quarter - Remembrance Day 2010 poppy coin - Terry Fox 2005 dollar And a Franklin Pierce USA dollar Nothing worth photographying, but it's nice to come back from a trip abroad with a dozen of new coins Q PS : by the way I changed my avatar from a 1986 silver 100 francs "statue de la liberté" to a 1986 proof gold 100 francs of the same type. Hope you like it (gold is trendy these days, isn't it ?)
There's a 1/2 ounce of the Mexican Libertad up for auction on Tuesday at Robert Mayo Auction Service in Kansas City. Online bidding only, plus 10% buyer premium. I've never won anything, but I watch what they list and what it sells for. Lot 540. It's already up to $152. http://www.auctionbymayo.com/index.php?subp=1&sct=&pg=ap&pid=23243
Can anyone tell me what I found? Its about the size of a dime but thicker! Its almost to plain to be money? All opinions welcome!!..Thanks Bob..
I wonder if they will go back to their original designs if they drop out of the Euro. Kind of doubt Greece will, but Ireland is another story. Good chance they will revert back to the same coinage designs.
