I saw this for sale and was wondering what you guys think about it.It seems to be almost perfect, age considered, but the price seems a tad high even if the description is completely accurate.I am looking for a "Hogmouth" for my collection.Advice aprreciated!! http://www.vcoins.com/ancient/ane/store/viewItem.asp?idProduct=652&large=0:)
Not at that price. These minors can be found in unc with some regularity. This coin also has some minor porosity which kills it for me.
Chuckle, I have three is VASTLY worse shape. The price seems high, but he condition is pretty high as well, so... Ben
I wonder where seller gets his information from? Struck with new dies?? Yeah right! Never in a month of sundays was that coin struck with new dies! I have always understood that the reason why KM does not list certain coins in `unc' is that the general quality of `unc' (as opposed to the de facto `has not circulated') that we know of today simply didn't exist. `As struck'....yes but the quality of `as struck' might be a fair bit shy of our concept of `uncirculated' in qualitative terms. of course there are exceptions. Unfortunately, that coin does not fall into the `unc' category in qualiotative terms for me. Perhaps EF, but never ever `unc'. Overpriced? You betcha! You'll find coins of that type and grade regularly up for auction in many of europes auction houses......and at realised prices significantly below sellers ask. My opinion? Save up a few more $'s and get yourself a bona fide hogmouth taler. Much more bang for buck Ian
