Hi all, Today, I have a very simple question... Which is the most accepted way to say it... Mint mark or Mintmark? Thank you!!!
To SAY it works either way... I would spell it as mint mark, because that's what the us mint and Wikipedia do...
I would say "mint mark" is probably the most common usage and that is how I voted. But english (deliberately lower case), especially idiomatic english, is highly flexible, adaptable, and organic. That's why dictionaries don't define usage, spelling and grammar but rather record it.
Mint Mark and Mintmark are used interchangeably. There is no standard. Wikipedia uses mint mark, but Wiktionary (literally run by the same group), uses mintmark. The US mint uses mint mark, but Heritage uses mintmark. With numismatics being a scientific study of coins, I would prefer an accepted standard - but I'm also realistic to understand that probably won't happen. The area most agree on, however, is Privy Mark - it is almost universally spelled as two words.
People have made it different ways but mint mark is the correct way. Spell check on my cell phone tells me do.
