I'll let these two images speak for themselves. I've had this coin for a long time, but just recently started going over all of the coins I have under any sort of magnification, and was wondering if this is a die crack error.
would you mind sharing how much you paid for that and what grade it is? I am looking into buying flying eagle cents from my local coin shop, and I wanted to have an idea of what to expect.
Here's a ploace yo can look up any coin and see good pictures with prices from various sources . you have to Join to see the prices but it's free and a great place to get some coins to . Heratige . http://coins.ha.com/?ic=althome2-task-coins-us
Is that one of the "Snow" (Robert Snow the name?) varieties? I know little about copper-coinage die varieties... I'm a VAM guy. I have a friend that specifically collects IHC and Flying Eagle die varieties... Maybe I should send him a link to this thread. -Brian
Could be, but the die crack would only be a diagnostic. Without seeing the whole coin I do not think anyone could say for sure. I could be wrong because it could be a major diagnostic on a variety, but not sure myself. PS - It is Rick Snow.
@CCMint: I purchased the coin nearly a decade ago on ebay, and I don't recall what I originally paid for it. I think it was around 25 dollars after shipping. Here's a full shot of the front/back of the coin.
on one hand, any errors on flying eagles are rare, but on the other hand, die cracks don't usually add value to the coins (primarily because no one specifically collects them).
