    After college I was a head teller in a major downtown Boston bank got in trouble with the boss
    for selling (at face) bags of 81 and early 82 cents. These where $50.00 bags that weighted a ton.
    We didn't have counters at the branch so I never had to handle them again.I think I was ratted
    out by another branch. As for my own finds those were the days my friends, cents,nickels,dimes ect. As well as currency, buy in the morning sell at lunch.

    Not quite rolls but you might find this interesting anyhow, it's the closest I could get to roll searching where I am!

    Back in 2003 I was browsing eBay and I came across a bulk lot of 'spare US change', I thought well this can't be that interesting but I thought I'd take a look anyhow. The dealer stated some coins went back to the 1910s through to about 1995. So I emailed him and asked if any of the halves, quarters or dimes were dated 1964 or earlier. To my surprise he said there were quite a few, although i'm guessing from his descriptions and lack of mentioning it that he had no idea they were silver. So I thought right i'm having that lot, I can't remember exactly what I paid but it was about 4X the value in face.

    I thought, well i've probably paid well over and i'm probably going to get about two or threee silver coins out of it. Well when they arrived I whipped open the package and started silver hunting. First was a 90% Kennedy, followed by three 40% Kennedys. Then four war nickels, three buffalos, a Barber Quarter, two Standing Libs, Six silver Washers, about ten Roosies and three mercs.

    To say I was delighted was an understatement, best bulk lot purchase ever. I suspect it was a one off though. But I can really appreciate the excitement of searching rolls. Sadly there's nothing of interest (read silver) to be found in circulation where I am!

    Two boxes of halves; 1 40%er. My first skunk in 8 boxes... was nice while it lasted.

    Two of the banks I was expecting to get me a box for tomorrow won't get them until next week, so that's only one box tomorrow... not happy about that. Will probably end up doing the halves and 3-4 boxes of dimes as well as stocking up on change for the storm on Sunday.

    Eureka!

    After searching boxes of halves, I finally gave up. There were too many skunks. In the past 10 boxes, I found 2 40's and it wasn't worth it, so I only do loose now.

    I went into Wells Fargo today, and didn't see any halves in her tray, so I asked if she had any. The teller next to her had $20 in loose, and then she remembered that she also had, in her drawer, $15 in loose.

    The $20 was a skunk, but the $15 that she had was all sliver. I could hear it when she set the envelope on the counter. Out of the 30 coins, 16 were 90's and 14 were 40's. There were Kennedy, Franklin, and Walking Liberty. One of the Walking Liberty coins is so nice, I'll post a pic and see if anyone thinks it grade-able.

    I think the teller with the silver may have been trying to hold them for the end of her shift since she said she knew they were silver, and she had them in an envelope in her drawer. She actually had $15.50 in silver, so she kept one of them and put it back into her tray. I felt lucky and didn't insist on the last one.

    So, just when I thought I was done for good with searching, I have an awesome find... but the nagging question is whether I should be happy with what I got, or go back and get that other loose one!!!

    Be happy! If that teller knew what they had... it must have taken a LOT for them to give those to you. :)

    $180 in Halves today - 2 40%ers and a 1986 Commemorative Proof Half. First Commemorative found in a roll!

    If a teller is nice enough to give you that much silver then you should never treat them with disrespect. Just be nice, maybe even give her some candy or a gift certificate.

    In some cases it is against their employee policy to deny customers what they have in their drawer/tray/cash for the shift...

    Friday Report

    All right, sweet trip to St. Maarten, but now I'm back in the groove.

    Update since August 3rd:

    BWR H's: 100 rolls -> 2 x 40% H's
    Box 1: skunk
    Box 2: 2 x 40%
    CWR H's: 58 rolls -> 14 x 40%; 1 x 1964
    Loose H's: $18 -> skunk
    BWR D's: 50 rolls -> skunk
    BWR N's: 25 rolls -> skunk

    Out of the last 2 boxes of N's, I recovered 25 rolls that had something other than a 2011 on one end or both. The excess of 2011 N's is really starting to wear on me. :goof:

    The day before we left for vacation, I came upon that really nice score of CWR H's, but nothing else of particular note. Some really nice scores for everyone over the last few weeks, especially from the CWR's - I gotta keep up on the loose hunting.

    Went to a town way out to dump a ton of coin today; went there a month or two ago, and got no hassle at all, so I went there again cuz I had so much coin again. Checked the web for all the banks in the town, went to BoA for my dump, and hit up every place - got $15 loose. Skunk. Hit a a few banks on a different route home, found $130 CWR's at the last one. The teller tells me the Manager's got $130 in the vault, so I say I'll take them; just after that, she says that the man who dropped them off said he'd already gone through them. OOF! Skunk... duh.

    Managed to weasel one more box of H's out of our local BoA, before being totally shut down. Last time (6-8 weeks ago), when I went to pick up the 4 boxes I ordered, I was told that I could not get that many, and no scheduled orders. The Wife's friend, the branch Manager, told me I could order a box "once in a while". So, we were in there last week, for The Wife to open a business account (she got a nice referral for some estate planning work too), and while she's talking to the manager, I mosey up to the teller who's the vault manager and ask if it's OK to order a box of H's; he didn't seem to have a problem with it. When I go to pick it up at the beginning of this week, The Wife's friend brings me the box, and says that I can't order anymore, at all. :( Even my wife said in the car, "What the __ ? They're a bank!" Whadda ya gonna do?

    So there you have it... I got the last BoA box of H's, my regular order of 2 boxes H's and 1 box D's from my favorite bank, and 2 more boxes of N's from a different BoA - that doesn't have a problem with selling coin :p - to keep me busy this weekend.

    East Coasters: Hunker down and keep dry!

    Everyone else: Enjoy the weekend!

    Box of halves today: Skunk

    I needed to sell some to help pay for a family vacation and I sold 13 rolls of 40%ers for $107 a roll today. I'd like to have gotten a little closer to melt, but I think it was a fair price. Besides, I paid face value and made $1261 in profit. :) Even if silver goes way up, which I think it will, I'm happy with my sale today.

    Now, if I could find some more (3 boxes, 1 40%er this week).

    Nice little chunk of change on the sale there Bob!

    I missed my Friday and will miss my Saturday box tomorrow morning of halves as I made the trip from Chicago to Boston to visit my cousin this weekend. Hoping to see if I can do some loose change half hunting before the Sox/A's game. Also, my flight got canceled Sunday night b/c of the storm, so I'll be staying in Boston an extra day, hopefully the storm won't be too crazy....btw, I'm a Sox fan....White Sox baby! So don't really care if the red sox or A's win.... cheers all

    I have been saving the NIFC and have quite a few. What do others do with them? Just hold on to them for the time being?

    Two boxes of Halves and $50 in CWNickels...while picking up the nickels one teller (not helping me) overheard me talking about wanting to find old obscure coins for me and the kids. He says, I have an old dime if you want it. I'm like sure...thanks a bunch...he hands me a 1944 Merc.

    Box 1 of Halves: 1 x 1964 and 1 x 1969 Kennedy
    Box 2 of Halves: 1 x 1964 and 1 x 1967 Kennedy

    Nickels....nothing of note. 8 from the 40's and 7 from the 50's.

    Looks like TD Bank is the way to go for Nickels.

    I was holding on to them for a while, but after getting a few rolls of the same year and MM, I found the premiums just weren't worth it. I got a little Harris folder (#8HRS2698) and kept the best ones; now I just upgrade when I find better specimens. If you find mint rolls (blue wrappers with "1-800-USA-MINT" on them), I recommend keeping them. I'm thinking the mint is going to quit minting the H's soon (2014 is the 50th anniversary of the JFK H's).

    Forgot to mention I got my first 2011 Halves (a P and a D) from Box 1. Kept that to round out my NIFC for the 2001 up to 2011. Don't have any 'S' yet.

    I recently sold $30 worth of NIFCs on ebay. I listed with an accurate description (most were high AU). After fees and such, I made about 3 cents per coin. Maybe it's better to just toss them back, I don't know.

    Almost

    Going through cents and got 8 wheaties. One them made my heart skip a beat. I pull out a 1914 and notice a mint mark below it...........it was an S. Still, it is a nice find and that coin is worth more than most lincoln cents, but I'm missing only 2 lincolns, the 1909 s vdb and the 1914 d, and I thought for a second that I had it.....
