I have just been going through some of my Franklin halves that have been housed in a Whitman album since 1988 and was wondering if it would be worth it to have any of these proofs graded. All coins were obtained directly from proof sets. 1962 & 1963
From your photos all of them look like PR-64 or 65's. But it is hard to tell if they all have cameo images. If they do then their worth might justify them to be slabbed. That is really your decision and only yours.
Thanks for your compliment. Apparently, though, they don't seem to be too high grade as far as proofs go, even though they were taken straight out of proof sets and immediately put in the Whitman album. I was hoping at least one or two would look like 65+ material.
The thing is, when you get up to the late 50s to 63, it's hard finding the proof Franklins higher than say 64/65. Believe it or not, a lot of them can be had for not much more than melt.
They can be. My 58-63 proof Franklins were around $22.50 each. The average grade of those are 63, with only 1 that received a grade of 64. The rest were 62 and 63.
:thumb:They look PR-66 Cameo to me! but what a TPG would grade them I do not know? I wonder at time if they even look at your coin for more the a few seconds??? I to have been work on a graded Cameo Franklin set 1950-63.I have to get the set completed first. but here 2 dates. The 1963 was graded as a free submission 1998 for joining Ngc. 1957 I picked up at 2009 Whitman coin expo. I will post a few more once I get some photo's done. dates don't have and need in Cameo are 1950 thu1954. 50-54 are the big money coin too!!! :kewl:
But even if graded the day the mint released them the majority of Proofs from this period grade under 65. And honestly, I see none of those grading 65. I would agree with 63's and 64's.
