    Unalike most of the other threads here, I don't have some crazy PMD on my coin that I'm trying to pass off as a mint error. I suck at grading Ikes, and I was wondering what you fine folks would grade this thing as;

    Also, can that light hazy stuff on spots of the coin be dipped off by acetone or that stuff that begins with an X?

    AU? Awesome luster however there are some poor areas and the scratches would probably bring it down. I'm a n00b don't take my word for it.

    Definitely not AU, Ty.

    Dips are perfectly fine if you know what you're doing, CC. Its also far nicer than an MS60. I know it's at least a 64...

    The lighting used to image the coin make it look like there are breaks in the luster in spots. It looks AU-58.
    If no luster breaks, MS-63 or 64. No chance at 65.

    I agree w/ kdhair I dont see a 65, though there is a potential for MS63-64.

    is that a die crack running from the rim over to the one in 1776? Might just be my eyes. I would say MS62 but Im no expert. The rev. is very sharp. The bell really stands out to me. Nice IKE.

    Don't know how this will affect your opinions but here is a MS65 obverse.

    If the 1876-1976 Obv photo was lighter could add a better grade. I would say MS-62-63 and type 2

    May I ask who gave it a 65?

    Wow. I am shocked this one got a 65. Yours looks to me to be a 62/63.

    For the original photo, Id give it a MS 62 becuase of all the spotting and scratches.

    I would check eyebrow, cheek, and ear. If no luster breaks I would say it could grade 64. Absent haze, a very pleasing coin. It could even go 65 if you got the haze off. I would ask someone with more experience to dip it for you. It can be done, (I have done it, after ruining some cheap coins practicing), but you do not want it to be your first try. If you want to try it, get some change and practice on it first so you can know how long you can leave in there without affecting luster noticably.

    OK, now everyone can throw their eggs at me for saying dipping is doable. Just remember I have been doing this for 30+ years now, I am not a new collector.

    I've got about 200 lower grade ikes with similar haze to practice my dipping on. :)
