I just posted this in the Trade Forum, so it may look similar if you look there. I have found 3 star notes in the last couple of months. $20 2006 IK00680987 K11 $20 2009 JB01369452 B2 $50 2004A GE01838475 E5 I was wondering if any of them are worth more than slightly over face. They are all in good condition. Also, is there a site like numismedia that does paper money for free? I know they have a book for it, but I don't collect paper money, so its not really worth buying for me.
Here they are. I guess they aren't in as good condition as I originally thought, they don't look this bad when you hold them in your hand. Also, I tried to scan them and half way through a message pops up saying that "this application does not support the unauthorized processing of bank notes", and it stopped.
I don't know the values, but one 20 IK00680987 was printed in DC in a run of 3,200,000, the 50 was printed in FW in a run of 2,560,000. USpapermoney.info does not list the 2009 series. Nice pick ups. I'd hold them. Probably little, if any, premium right now. Someone with more knowledge than me will be by soon to give some more info. Sit tight.
The 2009 $20's can be found here http://www.uspapermoney.info/serials/f2009_v.html All of the notes are newer, circulated, large run star notes with less than remarkable serial numbers. The subject of "what are they worth" and "should I keep them" comes up a lot. My opinion...... keeping these notes is the equivalent of a coin collector that keeps AU State Quarters, except on a more expensive scale. You may find someone out there willing to pay you more than face value, but it won't be me.
I am only willing to pay a few dollars over face for the newer issues. The possiblilty of them going up in value over time is there, but the question remains as to how long it will take for them to go up in value. I generally pay face for new stars, but have been known to pay about $3 over face for those series depending on the condition of the notes. The JB $20 star is the roughest of the bunch, so worth only $1 over face in my opinion.
