I have an Indian head penny 1908 that is 3 dimensional so that the face of the Indian is sticking out of the coin. Has anyone seen this before? Appears to have a silver plate on the back with a patent # on it. Definetely home made but pretty cool.
Very cool. Not worth much but still very cool. Similar to the hobo nickels. Just done for fun. What's it say on the reverse at the top?
Looks like there prob many made,Seeing that it looks obviously hand made by a jewler,Not worth much but a pretty cool & original piece,Overall nice find coinomatic :thumb:
I think it says "PATNM/99" - Patent number 99? I cant make out the rest but maybe "604" I have not looked close enough yet.
Not worth much to a coin collector but it may be worth something to someone who wants a cool button or cufflink.
I think they call these pushed out coins or something like that coin coinomatic. You'll see one on E-bay here and there. As a matter of fact there was one offered several months ago that I thought about bidding on, but decided not to. If you can get the whole patent number please post it and we may be able to get some info for you. Bruce
These are called "Pop Out Coins". Actually, this "damage" has likely increased the value, just as counterstamps often do. There is one like yours (except dated 1905) currently on ebay, item 180639084509, with a buy it now of $99.00. I don't know if it will sell for that or not, but it seems like most of the pop out coins on ebay are listed somewhere in the $40 to $380 range, generally with the larger denominations carrying the higher prices.
I have a 3D coin as well mine its a replica of a real indian head a 1904 coin on back it says PAT AUG 11, 1903. THE INDIAN HEAD IS PUNCHED OUT and there does not seem to be a reverse print to the coin. I am not sure if this is a coin or button or what. I am able to where it as a charm on a necklace so that is cool. I was shocked to see that someone else has one. Your coin is very different from mine your indian faces forward mine faces to the my left. Any idea what it is worth? They are very RARE. we may have the only demos made. I was told by a coin master in my area that mine is first at coin and then maybe something else and thats what makes it valuble.
I checked out some U.S. Patent records for those issued on Aug. 11, 1903 suedamoney and found one that may be connected to your piece. Patent #736,167 was issued that date to Edwin B. Stimpson of Brooklyn, NY for a "punching machine". Apparently, the machine was intended for punching through large stacks of heavy paper so might be strong enough to put the design on your coin. Maybe if you do a bit of research on Mr. Stimpson, you'll find out more about it. Good luck, and let us know if you find anything. Bruce
The more I have looked at this, I think that I saw it on a pair of bluejeans when shopping at the big city mall with my college-aged kids.
