I found 2 George Washington dollar coins with no edge lettering. In the photo, it looks silver but it's just the flashlight. So is this an error and is it worth anything? The edge is completely smooth. Thanks!

On ebay, they run about $30 and up depending on grade.

I'm not good with grading. But the coins are obviously not uncirculated.

So, this is an error coin? Do you know how many of these coins had no edge lettering? Also, how much should I sell it for ( if I were to sell it)?

If you have a good scale you might want to weight the coin for good measure. I remember when first reading about the missing edge lettering Washingtons that people were filing down the edges trying to recreate a missing edgle lettering coin. These coins obviously weigh less than a true Washingtons $1 with missing edge lettering.

Pictures of the edge aren't good enough to determine if the edges have been tampered with. Genuine missing edge coins in MS are worth $30 to $50. A circulated piece will of course be lower. As to the number made the mint estimated around 50 to 125 thousand.

If, as the coin lays flat, there are vertical striations across the entire rim and all the way around, then they are probably real errors. If they are too smooth or have horizontal lines, then they're probably faked errors.

ps: they look like they might be good! I too forget the weights for the weight test but it's out there somewhere.

I think the price on these has actually been falling a bit. Typically when these "edge lettering missing" dollars are first found they sell for hundreds. As time goes on they start selling for less and less.

Edit: Here is a link showing the trend of a 2007 Washington Dollar in MS65 with missing edge lettering. I really like the missing edge lettering coins as well, bu unfortunately, most appear to be losers as far as value is concerned.

Should I sell one, both or keep both of them? There is a coin shop that is close to my house. It's called NFC coins jewelry. Should I sell the dollar coin(s) there? Here is their website: www.nfccoins.com
