He knows plenty about coins actually IMHO. He also knows how to make them sound more rare than they are and rip people off. If we had nothing but uninformed, unsuspecting buyers walk into the shop I work at we wouldn't even NEED real coins. We could peddle crap all day for huge margins. As it is when people walk in with a lot of stuff (like the golden state quarters) we offer face value. Many sell it. Then it gathers dust in the store because most of our customers want real coins. It's a vicious pattern at times.
"OK, you are looking at the most , hardest, rariest set of coins you will ever see"....."I couldn't put this set together again if I had another 20 years"...."I went to a national coin show , and NOBODY had these coins"... "I talked to a dealer, and they said "Are you kidding?" "these can't be found without spending at least triple what you are seeing here"..."If at all"... He reminds me of P.T. Barnum himself........
Why Conder? the TPGs are there to do one thing, turn a profit. They have no higher purpose, no altruistic reason for being, they are a company trying to make a profit for it's shareholders. That said, they have gotten quite creative over the past few years to facilitate slabbing of more modern coins. They do favors for certain people because those people do a lot of slabbing though them. Most businesses cater to their better clients, it's good business and definitely nothing unusual.
Oh I understand why they do it, and it doesn't suprise me that they do. It's just that back when they started they were supposed to be neutral unbiased parties not taking sides or helping on side over the other. They were going to be above the fray so eveyone could trust them and they would teat everyone equally. Bull. You spend enough with them you get special favors. And once special consideration is shown to anyone for any reason I feel it taints them and calls any and all actions into question. If they will help thier "buddies" out with special labels, promotional help, maybe special pricing, how can you be sure they won't help them out by an extra point or questionable calls go their way etc. I just don't tust it and it smacks of favoritism. The antithesis of an unbiased neutral party. (Remember I hate all grading services and I don't pretend to be unbiased about it. Of course I also recognize it colors my opinions of them as well. Being openly biased it can mean I may be harsher on them than they deserve.)
Ha ha ha I know I hate them I purchased a collection a while back where the guy had bought hundreds of those %$^& things, I reluctantly bought them right around face and expected to sit on them forever. Most of those sold before the rest of the collection, ever the silver that came out of it. I couldn't believe it. Now for the bad part, some of the people who bought some of the quarters now want to finish their sets, so I have to call other dealers and ask if they have any, I feel so dumb. lol So If anybody has any let me know.
Sound advice. I was in the coin shop last year, and overheard the owner politely tell a gentleman (with a bunch of these) that he has no luck selling graded ASEs, and they just weren't popular around here. I felt bad for the customer, but admired the shop owner's ability to creatively say "no thank you."
Wait a second here....so you guys are trying to tell me the rock bottom, deal of the century, cant be beat price of just 27 payment of $49.95 for a almost, nearly BU set of State Quarters wasn't a good deal? Well son of a .......!!!!!!! If I were serious, I'd hope at least 12 of you would line up and shoot me dead. Guy~
I do hate these things, I had a lady call me about a set of ASE's that she had bought off the TV, she paid $1300 for here MS69 set from 86-08. She asked what I would pay for it, I told her I would pay right around $400 she yelled at me, I had to restrain myself from laughing when she told me they were an investment that they are supposed to go up 10% a year. I told her they might go up with silver and nothing more. She hung up on me and then called back later to ask if I knew anywhere else to get rid of it for more. I told her that she might do better with an ad in the paper if she could find someone else who knew what they were but that most people who do will want them for $550 or so. I got a kick out of it. Some people should just not buy stuff.
Right here we have a MS-69 silver puke bucket graded by NGC with a special first day production / first day ceremony special idetification number 1 of 500. We only have 750 of these available so lets put 2 min on the clock. My phones are going crazy. I didnt want to sell these so cheap but I talked to some guy at burger king today and we decided to let these go at a sacraficial $1499.99. But wait, you also get the limited production NGC puke bucket carying case made out of hand carved OSB and hand painted by children in third world countries. This deal couldnt get any better... or could it? Since I have so many worthless coins laying around I figured I'd fill the puke bucket with gold plated state quarters and gold plated lincoln memorial cents. This deal couldnt get any better. These would be great for your grand kids or their grand kids. Hurry we only have 3 min left of the clock and 2 left. This is a deal that anyone watching right now could afford. I would buy them all myself and sell them back to the company.. but...... I'm not that stupid. So get your credit cards out and order right now. These buckets came from the great white lake windfall bank hoard. Impossible to come by. They are going for 5 million dollars on ebay right now so Buy 10.. Buy 20.. Buy one for each starving kid in haiti. Just buy them now.
Oh and it's on strech pay...only 160 payments of $199.99. You should be done paying for them about the time they are worth something
Oh my god! I'm on the floor dying right now. That was fantastic! :thumb: 1 of 500, we only have 750 of these available! CLASSIC!
I wonder if the coin vault people are hiring. I could totally do that job if I threw every ounce of morals and business ethics out the window. These thieves are no better than pawn shops, used car dealers, family practices, and sunday morning religion telethons. As much as I can feel bad about the suckers who keep their business' thriving, I also feel its somewhat their fault for not having enough common sense to realize when they are being had. For the record coin valt... you will NOT get a cent from my wallet. Tell your magazine advertising friends they can keep their scrap metal too.
ya ill second that wont refund return shipping cost or insurance what a bunch of ****!!!!!!:devil::devil::devil:
