Seated Half question

    I'm new to this forum and I found this half with my detector a few yrs a go. Can you tell me what made the hole?? thanks

    Hello John,

    It looks like a nail punched thru it, then somebody tried to patch/solder it.

    I was told that in the 1800's that people would take a nail and put a hole in the money and put a string through coinsn and tie it to there pants. Have you every heard that????

    No, I haven't heard that, but it's possible. Where abouts in Tejas you from? I grew up over around Nacogdoches.

    Not a bullet. That would have made garbage of that coin. Very soft metal and a bullet would have just bent it all up. More than likely a hole drilled in it for a bracelet, necklace or good luck charm.

    Perhaps someone holed several coins in order to obtain a sumly amount of silver in order to cash in that silver as well as the coins.
