Hey guys, I would like some thoughts on grade and value on this coin. It is graded by PCGS, but I would like to see what you all think the grade is before I reveal what they graded it. I would also like to know if the toning adds to or detracts from the value at all. The sellers pictures were not very good and showed no toning in the pictures. Just curious as to what some of you would pay (if anything) for it. Thanks. My pics aren't the best, but the battery on my D40 bit the dust, so these were taken with my iphone.
MS65 assuming the flash isn't hiding some more scratches. I see a lot of scratches on the obverse. Not sure if that is the holder or the coin. I think the toning is neutral to positive. The front in my opinion would be neutral however the toning on the back is awesome. Some collectors would pay a premium for that coin. I wouldn't recommend paying to get it graded. Nice coin!
Difficult to say... Photos are a bit dark. Looks to have a few hairlines in the fields on the obverse under Roosevelt's nose, but, due to the attractive (IMO) toning, PCGS probably gave it a 66. In a reality with equal TPG standards, It'd be a true 65. Nice coin! -Brian
The reverse is reversed because I flipped the image vertically so that it would be right side up. I took the picture the the reverse upside down.
PCGS grades it as MS-66. I paid 5.50 shipped for the coin, which I am happy with. I had no idea it was toned though, due to the seller's poor pictures. I was simply curious if the toning helps or hurts the value.
$5.50 sounds like a reasonable price-- Coin World Trends lists an MS-66 at $22. That kind of toning is in demand by some collectors so you did OK.
