I have now taken the plunge & decided that I should have a website.I want to compile an online catalogue of British Commonwealth coins, banknotes, traders' tokens, postal notes,& postal orders. You can now find the website here; www.freewebs.com/royalist0007/ . Note; It is a work in progress.I am very new with regards to building a website,as I am not up with the play as modern technology goes. If you have any items to submit, can you please identify it as to its KM number if it is a coin,or its P or PS number if it is a banknote. You can send an email to me at royalist0007@yahoo.co.uk . Aidan.
Andy, there's nothing there yet.Can anyone please advise me if I need to get an editing programme for the website,& whether or not I could edit the website from any computer? I want to be able to add in such features as links to the individual countries as well as their geographical regions, plus separate lists under each country for banknotes, coins, postal notes, postal orders,& traders' tokens. As soon as someone reports numismatic items from a British Commonwealth country that I was previously unaware of,I would be able to add in the appropriate information. Aidan.
I found it interesting that your background showed what appeared to be north american southwest. As for helping you I think you would be better suited getting advice from people who already have their own web pages. Rick has a nice one, enchantedhorses was also impressive as well as a number of other posters here. Perhaps they bought a program and downloaded it? I don't know. If I did, I would be glad to tell you.
Aidan - You can edit a web page with almost anything - you don't need special software. I've written raw html code using something as simple as NotePad or Microsoft Word for the past 10 years. You just write or edit your new text code, save the file, and then upload it to the web site using the new file to replace the old one. That's one way. But it can depend on where you have your site hosted. Some host have built in software where all you do is access an admin page and change the text or code there. Some have it set up where you change it through the control panel. Some use a program called Front Page or Front Page Express - there are many, many different programs.
Very nice Aidan! Are you looking for collectors to send in pics and info on our coins? If so,I'll be glad to send in a few, like that Straits Settlement,Sarawak,N.Borneo trio I just picked up.just let us know.
Peter is going to be setting up the website at www.bcnumismaticproject.com as soon as he can.I will be doing some basic construction work before I start calling for submissions of KM,P & PS numbers. Each country will be listed in strict alphabetical order,& in geographical regions.I have never liked Krause's arrangement in which Ceylon is listed under Sri Lanka or New Hebrides listed under Vanuatu, etc. Aidan.
I do agree with Aidan. The Krause system of arranging the countries is a bit weird for me. But while arranging the countries absolutely in alphabetical order, each one's geographical descriptions is a must.. So I feel, most preferably with the help of some maps..
Biju, there will even be a separate section for Indian Princely States, because there is just far too many of them to list if they were all placed under British Asia & Far East.A few Indian Princely States issued their own banknotes, but Gwalior,Jhind,& Patiala issued their own Postal Orders.Hyderabad issued the most banknotes before & after India became independent. As seen as Peter has not yet set up the website foundation,I guess that we will have to wait until after Easter to find out. Aidan.
