I am new to bill collecting and bought this at the beginning of the summer. Since, I have learn a lot and found this form. I am curious about your opinions on it. How much does the missing piece of margin kill it? I took it to a dealer and he said I did ok even with the missing piece and if I ever was going to sell it he was interested. So I am comfortable with the purchase, but $325 is a lot for a college student so I still wonder was it a ok buy. Obverse Reverse
It looks like a very nice note. 1914 Red seal $100 do command higher prices than the Blue Seal notes, the values usually run much higher than what you paid. There are others on this forum that will likely weigh in on this but, if it is authentic, yes you got a very good deal for $325.
Update Went to the Worlds Fair of Money in Chicago this week in and showed this around. The highest offer was $450 so I did ok even with the damage.
They were low-balling you big time! I wouldn't take a dime under $500, and that would be my bottom line! Collector currency is very stable, so don't let them fool into that garbage about the economy effecting everything...
Your note would grade Fair-Good based upon the fact that there is a piece missing. This note is highly collectible, even in this condition, and most grades will be for the notes with a blue seal. The red seals are worth about 25-40% more. Your note, if it were a blue seal St Louis, would be around 65% of Fine value, or 65% of 750= $488. As a conservative figure, adding in 25% for the red seal would increase it to $610. You did well for the purchase and I would not sell it below $500.
January Green sheet has fine at 1375 bid and 1500 ask. I think you did good :thumb: The retail in two different books has these higher in Fine. Nice pickup!
Thank you to everyone for all the information. If I ever decided to sell these price information will come in handy.
