I threw this common date Peace $ into a cigar box and forgot there was a rubber band lurking in there. The rubber came into contact with the coin and this is what I have, a Peace $ with a severe case of eye black. Any ideas about how to get rid of it without rubbing? I soaked it in acetone overnight and it didn't seem to do much good. DSCN0149.jpg

In my experience a rubber band leaves a stain etched into the surface and nothing will remove it. I've tried acetone, xylene and coin care stuff like Blue Ribbon. Eventually, frustrated and dealing with a half dollar worth little more than melt if it could be saved, I tried eZest (Jewel Luster). Even dipping didn't work. Eventually I sold it for melt because it was painful to look at.

Sorry, but I think your dollar is permanently stained. Regrets.
