Washington Quarter Voting Hijacked By CURT WOODWARD, Associated Press Writer Mon Apr 10, 8:08 PM ET Talk about your two-bit schemes. Robotic computer programs stuffed the online ballot boxes in a contest for Washington's official state quarter design over the weekend, forcing technicians to suspend voting Monday while they retooled the Web-based poll. State officials overseeing the balloting realized something was fishy when the poll, launched last Thursday, swelled to more than 1 million votes during the weekend.
It was a vote to pick the design for the Washington state quarter. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/6420AP_WST_State_Quarter.html http://www.governor.wa.gov/quarter/default.asp
That would be a fairly simple problem to fix. Just automatically eliminate the design that had been voted on with the robotic computer. You wouldn't know by any chance what the design was that they were trying to get put on the quarter, would you?
The article just gave the four selections, not which one was winning. I think they were trying not to 'contaminate' the vote.
It sounds like it is already contaminated. I find it very humorous that they didn't anticipate this, since it is a routine problem with online voting and it should have been obvious that this would happen!
Washingtonian view of state quarters I am a citizen of the State of Washington, and am curious to know what state quarter recieved the 1 million votes. My preferance is the top quarter on the official poll. The bottom one is by far the worst, and I am rather upset about the third quarter being even one of the top three!!!!!!!!!!!
Quarter I like the middle design, it is less cluttered and does not have the state outline. Just MHO.
Your, umm, favorite one, it seems. "The orca design was winning in the altered voting before officials pulled the plug" http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060411/ap_on_hi_te/state_quarter Actually I like that whale, but not as the sole graphic element of a WA quarter. Design #2 would be my favorite. Christian
I also like the second design the best, I am not fond of the quarters that have the state outlines. Although my vote does not count since I am not a Washinton state citizen or US citizen for that matter.
I like the middle one personally... Anyway another thing that bugs me, if you are going to put latin sayings on currency use latin lettering (ie E PLVRIBVS VNVM Instead of E Pluribus Unum) Just a little rant from a latin student.
