    The terms are used not only for Doubled Dies, but for any variety which starts with a particular die, and as usage continues, changes occur to the die whether from polishing, die deterioration or accidental damage which alters the appearance of a coin.

    Some good examples of this can be viewed on VAMWorld for the VAM-2 through VAM-2E series of the 1882-CC Morgan.
