Hello guys. Recently i bought a lincoln cents (1909-date) dabsco and at my coin show yesterday i filled a ton of it. Almost all the fifties and forties wheats are filled in choice BU condition. I also got a 1909 vdb in about xf 45 condition with hints ofluster. I also boight a 1909 plain. This is my favorite coin becquse it is very evenly colored with a nice chocolate brown but it has absolutley no wear on the detail or anything. I wouod defenitly grade it atleast an au58 bn. I really want to complete this lincoln cent before i graduate highschool in tWo years. My roadblock is that idk where to get coins! I dont feel like waiting months at a time for shows to buy coins. Ebay is great and all but i dont trust it. I dont want to buy a gem bu wheat and habe it come with a huge scratch or something and end up paying double what its worth to ship it back. You guys no any better sites to buy from? I donthave any shops in my area.
Join a local coin club http://coinbrowser.com/clubs.php?state=Maryland and ask about nearby reputable shops. Go to a local show http://www.coinshows.com/maryland.html. The Baltimore show http://www.whitmanexpo.com/contentPages/Main_Baltimore.aspx is in November. and start saving for that 1909S-VDB
Weel like i said i know about the shows but i do not feel like waiting months at a time for shows to come. Also i already know of every shop within half an hour driving distance of mme and have been to all of them and none of them will work for me for reasons i dont want to get into. And my sixteenth birthday is 6 days before the baltimore whitman show in november so 09s vdb here i come!
If you go through boxes of cents from your local bank, you can fill a lot of holes from the 20's and 30's.
post your wants here in the wanted section, there are dealers here that would be glad to help you out. Richard
The sooner you learn practice patience, the better off you will be. That said, there is no need to wait. What you need to do is to establish realtionships with trusted and respected dealers and buy coins from them - and you can do it right from the comfort of your own home.
I have searched ndreds of rolls and all i find is from the 40's and 50's. The far a few early dates i find are highly worn and have multiple rim dings. Im going for xf 1909-1929 and gem BU for the rest. I will defenitly post my wants. Hopefully i get some responses. And GD i dont know any dealers to make relationships with! Haha. And i am always patient in terms of finding the perfect coin. I dont just buy everything i see but it annoys me that everyday i see the same coins in my album qnd if i wait for shows they will remain the same for months
I think you put your Haha after the wrong sentence. But then it's time that you got to know some dealers, for you never will unless you start at some point in time. And there is never any time like the present. That said, there are several trusted dealers, and private coin sellers right here on this forum. Start with them. Also you can easily look thru the lists of dealers that I made in the Numismatic Resources section. Every single one of them has my personal vote of confidence, which is not something I hand out lightly. They have my confidence as a result of my personal dealings with them over a period of many years.
Thank you GD. I already have offers coming in to my inbox. I will go look at that list and try to make relationships with the dealers. Hopefully i can accomplish my goals soon!
Your instincts are telling you something. There are plenty of people on ebay looking to sell you problem and counterfeit coins. Problem is, coin shows have some of these guys too. I would suggest taking some time to learn about the Lincoln cent series, with a few good books. You will save yourself more than you can imagine.
Try Certified Rarities in Towson Maryland- It’s on the # 8 Bus line I believe if you don’t have a car. It is about a block above the York Road exit off 695, just past the Maryland Fire Museum. They have a large selection of both slabbed and raw coins at fair prices. Dealers name is Brian Ott. very knowledgable and helpful or at least he seems to be from my knownedge base anyway.
