I got my shiny new ANACS MS66 RED 1905 indian cent today. This slab is clearly a poor fake. The listing where I bought it had just one poor pic. I took some close up pics to better show you guys. Just be on the lookout for these there are obviously more then this floating around. Note that a real ANACS has a rubberized insert with A imprinted on the reverse. This one is cheap foam like from a BCW or collector safe like SGS uses. The real anacs has a much deeper recession under the label. The area for the label on a genuine slab is recessed. The reverse has hobby glue that leaked from the joints when the slab was assembled. The reverse label is completely wrong. It has a white boarder, and appears to be done with a home printer. The anacs label is recessed and foil like. Not sure without taking the coin out, but its probably also not genuine (or at least altered). The luster is completely wrong. Shield is popping out bigtime. The wreath is way to close to the shield. Some curious doubling of the reverse, and a ton of other things.
Yea, sorry to hear that. Are the fonts off as well? That's usually one of the tell-tail signs on the fakes.
That's terrible! Based on your "LOL" response, I'm assuming you purchased it on ebay and are going to simply get a full refund. Was the seller trying to push other fakes, or perhaps they were unaware the item is a fake? -LTB
I sounds as though you bought it from eBay. Their buyer protection should easily cover this. Return it!
A comparison with some of my ANACS slabs of the same type indicate that the 6's are wrong. The tops of the 6's on mine (which I received directly from ANACS when it was in Ohio) are not curved and they point towards 1:00, whereas it looks like the 6's in the slab in the OP point toward 3:00.
I doubt he did not know. Even to the untrained eye the glue that leaked onto the slab should have been a dead giveaway. Yes this was an ebay purchase. My LOL was because I should have known better. The pics in the listing were bad, but I did not scrutinize it at all. I usually load my sniper tool to fire away on the coins that I want. So I had bid on quite a few others. The listing had a bad obverse pic with no reverse pic at all. While you can still tell in the auction pic, I paid no attention at all. Worst case this will be an expensive lesson lerned. I am sure ebay will refund for not genuine compared to all the dumb reasons they refund.
There is no need to look at the fonts for authentication. This one is extremely obvious look at it compared to a genuine one. Note that the fake on the right is a copy of an older style slabs labels. The slab/insert diagnostics though should be very similar.
lol yeah wow, that SS# is bad, the person who created it doesnt have an imagination if they have to take it from a song. Unless they did that on purpose lol
Glad you can laugh about it. Sorry about your luck though. I am hoping you are able to recover the monies.
In the past I have notified both PCGS and ICG of fake slabs I have seen in the marketplace. Neither made any attempt to buy the coin, or even respond to me. They don't care.
Haha yeah, that's a pretty funny serial #. Makes you wonder if it was supposed to be an intentional fake or not. That's a pretty bad giveaway. "...for the price of a dime, I can always turn to you..."
LOL I really don't get the serial number maybe I am dumb haha. Someone wanna share? Also not to :dead-horse: But at least if your going to fake slabs like this at least buy a decent printer........
