Ebay Unsearched Rolls?

Oh yeah, those cent rolls with the Liberty Seated Dime on one end and a Flying Eagle cent on the other? Consider these rolls junk average circulated cent rolls and bid on the extreme low side for those special coins on the ends. If you don't win there will be hundred more you can play with later. Coin crimping tools are available to anyone on Ebay. On the other hand I have checked rolls claimed to be original by some sellers and been very fortunate. For example, an original 1959 B.U. roll of Lincoln cents I won for $4.99 with free shipping. Over half the roll had die cracks on the reverse and some had really nice die breaks. All were red B.U.'s. Another lot purchase of 2010 (ten rolls) with free ship found tons of die cracks at the top of the shield and many an additional clash on the right side of the banner. Just be careful, check the feedbacks, all of them that you have time for at least, before you buy. It can be a lot of fun if you are careful up front.

If you don't get caught up in the hype/price of the rolls with the key/semi-key ends, it can be a good way to fill holes and trade up what you have. Every once in a while I'll bid on a cheap penny roll and win and am always able to trade something up or find something of good enough quality that's worth, to me, keeping. If you buy a roll with an expectation to find something ultra-rare or cool, you will be disappointed. I did find a "copper" 1943 cent once...someone must have spent some serious time mixing nail polish to get the color right! :)

any newer rolls will be unsearched. For example if you are looking for a nice 2007 d dime for your album and buy a "NF string" bank roll it will be unsearched (99.9999999% chance)- I mean who is going to reroll an NF String roll for a $2 profit- it is just a silly thought. You can buy pretty much any modern roll with confidence- as a matter of fact you run across some dates in box quantity (which is the only way to get ms67+ non-satins without shelling out hundreds of dollars). the older stuff is all searched.

The only rolls I think have even a shot of being unsearched are things like half dollars that are sealed on both sides. Even then I'm sure there's ways of getting around that. And think about it, even if they aren't searched by that particular seller, chances are whoever s/he got the rolls from has already searched them.

A couple of years ago, this topic came up regarding a particular ebay seller. When you checked his purchases (the items he bid on and won) it was found he was buying up vintage paper coin rolls and his major purchase was a coin roll crimper. It was obvious he was re-rolling cents and because his rolls looked unopened in old bank paper, he was getting big bucks for essentially seeded rolls of culls.

    Here's what I got in the roll from ebay that came today (4.95+ shipping) : 1917x2, 1918, 1919x3, 1920x2, 1926, 1927x3, 1929x2, 1935 S, 1936x2, 1937, 1938, 1939x2, 1940, 1942, 1944x5, 1945, 1946 S, 1946x4, 1948x3, 1949x3, 1950x2, 1953, 1953D, 1956D, 1957, 1957D, 1958Dx3. I purchased it because it had two dates that I needed, 1917 and 1927. The 18 is rough but I didn't have one so I'm happy. I apologize for the rough pics but I'm outside with a lot of shade using my droid x and didn't feel like messing around to get better ones.

The unsearched thing just like the unopened pf set thing is for suckers. Its called bulking it up - throw in a coupla coins to make it look good then flood the rest of it with culls, etc.

I bought two unsearched rolls on bay that had two wheat pennies at each end.
after receiving and opening the insides were pennies from the 80s and 90s.
when i ask the guy about this he said that they were unsearched.
go figure, but i got the last laugh, feedback
