Just curious how many other hobbyists here on Coin Talk have taken the plunge and joined eBid. After years of getting abused as a seller on eBay, I finally had enough and have switched to eBid for most of my coin auction listings. From a sellers vantage point, its unbeatable. Has all the same features as eBay only costs almost nothing to sell there once you're a member. Takes me a little longer to sell stuff on eBid, and there is almost no chance of a bidding war at the close of an auction hence important to have an appropriate starting bid on most items. But all things considered it's a great way to list coins if you have the time to wait for them to sell.

From a buyers perspective, probably the nicest thing about it also stems from the low cost of selling there. With increase in fees on eBay over the last few years, many sellers won't even bother listing less expensive minors, it simply isn't economical to sell ANY coin on eBay now days for less than $5. By the time eBay takes their cut, PayPal takes their cut, -well there isn't much left for the seller, especially if he has to send a $5 coin insured or risk being charged-back by the buyer via PayPal. Long and the short of it, simply isn't economical for a seller to list inexpensive coins on eBay. Totally the opposite on eBid, inexpensive coins can be listed for nothing, and the auctions can be automatically restarted in the event they don't sell.

Anyway, would be curious what other members have to say about it...

Well, it's OK if you want to pay $49.99 a year membership fee.

Well, you can opt for the free membership, which gives you no extras and charges a 3% fee. Not too bad for a site that generates little interest.

Not sure what the fee was last time you were there. I paid $75 for a lifetime membership with zero listing or final value fees. To put that in perspective, a single $600 transaction on eBay costs more than that when PayPal fees are included. Does eBid receive as many visitors? Not yet. But then if you have paid any attention to the type of matrial listed on eBay the past few years, there is less and less good material. The real good stuff heads to Heritage without ever seeing a listing on eBay. What few items that are truly rare and desirable have such an enormous starting bid that the listing is little more than fodder for the "sellers" ego.

It's free to browse or buy. There are a couple different options if you are a seller, the best in my opinion is the lifetime membership which is $75 unless you purchase it within 24 hours of becoming a member in which case it is $49.50

The site is administered out of the UK, so the coin catagories are somewhat different than what you might expect. That is one area they could improve on, not sure why they didn't copy eBay out-right on the catagory tree, especially since eBay already spent so many years getting that pretty much perfectly tweeked. That is one thing eBay has done right..,,

Also worth knowing, if you are a seller, you can import your eBay feedback to eBid without starting all over again building a reputation. Takes a few months but once you've established that you are legit an administrator transfer the the feedback to your profile.
