Normally I don't have trouble grading or assessing Barbers, but I need a little input from those with more experience. I would grade this a nice VF in my book. But the toning concerns me. I've taken quite a few pictures from different angles, along with a white and black background to assure best white balance. Please let me know what you can :)

I'll go VF-30, am I detecting some purple lower obverse, or is that a misleading shadow? Also seeing a yellow tinge on the cheek. Hard to give it a good number from my phone. Is that a die crack at 9 o'clock obv, if so does it translate to the arrows @ 3 o'clock rev? No visible hairlines or rubs(again, viewing on my phone) but it's a shame about that nasty gouge at the base of the neck. But otherwise a beautiful coin, hard to find better barbers without breaking the bank. Looking at it again after sleeping & on a PC screen I'd have to drop it down to net 20. Definitely had a bath some time back.

    You tell me!

I put a $40 bid on the board and got it. Red Book for VF is around double that. I love the eye appeal, but im new to some of the higher grades.

    Bump!

Hoping someone might chime in about the toning. I don't think its AT, but one cannot be too careful.

    very strong fine/ weak VF

    like a Fine-18

I like it for $40 enough that I'd probably buy it for that. Color is a bit funky but far from awful.

vf 20 and by the last 2 photo I think that it had a acetone bath and wasn't rinsed properly due to the yellowing

That's what I was thinking. I liked the specimen, and it fits nicely into my collection. Just a different toning that the rest. Thanks for the input guys!

VF20. I like that coin. If it was cleaned at some point, it is re-toning nicely. I think you did well for that coin at $40.

It was definetely cleaned at one point but not enough IMHO to keep it out of a pcgs holder. You did good if you got it for $40.
