1959 D penny with PA and outline stamp on it has anyone ever seen this? i can't seem to find any info on it. any thoughts?
Welcome to CT derylc! Sorry I'm no help, but I am wondering if it was some kind of a non-mint set? There are a lot of companies that make coins to sell to the non-coin collecting public. Was this something you got in change?
Yes, it's quite common, someone(who know) has counterstamped these with every state. Do a search here and see how many threads you come up with.
Plenty of 'em out there... and discussed here many times in the past. Here's just one thread: http://www.cointalk.com/t158110/
Hi derylc, I found the same penny with an OHIO stamp in it. I also found-and then found out where to buy some more- of the 1974 penny with Kennedy stamped on it. It was part of a set of Kennedys and Lincolns that were put out with a paper of all the similarities of their terms of office. It's very interesting even though I don't know how legal it is to deface U.S. coins.
:welcome: to CT! Sorry, but it has no extra value. Someone probably put that on there. I've never seen that, though!
Hi Alex491, I totally agree with you on not having any extra value. In fact it takes away from any value the coin could have had before being punched.
I have a 1964 that my uncle Bill gave me before he passed back in the 60 ' s it's Lincoln cent with Kennedy facing him. If I recall that was when these first showed up in the numismatics market place. The link of course both assassinations .
