Hi guys, does anyone have experience with either of these sites? Are they reliable for buying coins online? Looking at the Govmint site, are the coins there really expensive compared to say APMEX?

    Please let me know!

    Thanks!

I would suggest that you shop around before making any buying decisions. Shop the U.S. Mint and your local Dealers and Major Auction Houses.

I don't recommend that you buy any coin that is graded MS70 or PF70 or one that is given a provenance like "First Strike" or "Early Releases".

The Franklin Mint doesn't ordinarily sell uncirculated coins unless they have been colorized or plated with a microscopically thin layer of another precious metal, but this does not enhance the value of the coin. In most cases they are using very low-grade uncirculated coins for these specimens, and you will never recover the premium they are charging for them.

Like coinman said, shop around first.

Cool. Sorry for the questions. I'm very new to the field and I live in Europe, so not sure on who the best bet is to buy from. Looking at govmint the prices look insane compared to APMEX. Some prices are almost twice as expensive for silver eagles and the likes...

I'm glad you asked this question. I found a Russian Silver St. George coin on Govmint and a few other ones that were sold out other places. I wanted to know if they were a good place to buy.

I guess one thing that put me off was, why do they have cheaper prices, and do they have more inventory than other places? Why are they not sold out of some coins? For instance I think they have the Canadian coin win the wolf and the moon in the background. Other places are sold out.

  7. IMO: GovMint, New York Mint, Collectable America, etc. are all way overpriced. TC

Maybe I'm not looking in the right places but Govmint has been the cheapest for some of the stuff I want. Course I havent placed an order yet. Maybe they wing you in shipping & handling.

  9. Glad to hear you have had luck with them. The only time I have purchased from any of them is when they are the only place with the item in stock. Otherwise, when I shop around, I can always find the item I want cheaper. TC

Can I ask where you buy stuff?

Over priced, and a lot of altered items. Not a good source for coins.

    Try here:

  13. It may be easier to list the place that I do not buy from. :D It really depends on what I am looking for. TC

So far I've only used APMEX and they are way cheaper than that GovMint site. 1 gold coin I saw was $600 cheaper on APMEX than on GovMint.

APMEX has some new bullion pieces but mostly pre-owned stuff bought in the marketplace. US Mint sells only their boring line of coins. GovMint sames as New York Mint or Asset Marketing has some exclusives that are VERY expensive..but often cool. And their common items like new graded silver eagles and world silver is right on target with the prices others charge like Perth Mint/Royal Mint/Modern Coin Mart/ etc
