I found this quarter metal detecting last month. Aside from the scratches it's in great shape. Just thought I'd share it with you guys .. enjoy !
Yes sir ... here are my other "treasures" from that day. Silver coins will usually survive the dirt fairly well unless you have really adverse soil conditions. I dug up a Franklin half that won't come clean.
No, I mixed water and baking soda and just rubbed it lightly. I did'nt really know how nice it was until it shined up.
I hear ya. But most of what I find is the circulated melt value variety. In fact I have only found two semi key-date coins, a 1913-S barber dime and a 1914-D buffalo nickel. Which I have not cleaned of course.
I thought I could see signs of a dipping/cleaning. Too shiny to have been buried in soil, and some light marks indicative to cleaning the dirt from the surfaces are present. Worth melt.
Dave Nice stuff there. Next time, bring a small (like a pill bottle) of water. I put better items directly into water. They clean off better when you get home if the dirt doesn't have time to dry & get like concrete on the coins.
Please dont clean coins. It damages them and the value. Its was worth 3.75 and its worth about 3.50 for cleaning it. Well thats nice u got it for free. :hail:
The melt value of a silver quarter is at $7.00 .. I probably should have posted it in another forum because I really was'nt interested in what it was worth. I'll never sell it anyways. I'll let my grandkids fight over it .
Melt on quarters right now is $6.99, and melt value only goes up or down according to the market. Not because silver coins were cleaned, the melt is not affected by cleaning.
still cleaned or not nice find. i got me a metal detector a few days ago and want to go see what i can find. I hope my luck is as good as yours.
Thanks. What kind of detector did you get? If you have any questions please ask. Always willing to help another in the hobby.
