I wrote a story once about a Seated Liberty half that had survived the San Francisco earthquake, then was found in the rubble by a boy who saved it. Later, he carried it as a good luck charm while a Doughboy in World War I, then gave it to his French lover. As a middle-aged woman, she gave it to a GI who was in the unit that liberated her village from the Nazis. He brought it back home to America, where his son found it among his father's effects after he'd died, and then sold it to a coin dealer. It was now on the dealer's price list, where a scratch (from the earthquake) reduced its selling price to under $20.

If I ever find it again (like many of you, my years of packratting means it would be a daunting task), I'll post it.

 

like has been said, coins are little bits of history. They are part of a larger story that all coins tell

 

Jackeen, that sounds like a very interesting story...and a sad end of sorts lol.

If coins could talk, is a subject I have contemplated for years,in fact I am not ashamed to admit that at times I have talked to my coins, now they have begun to
talk back to me. Should I be concerned?

 

This one's been around the block a few times. Buying bread or whisky, maybe a night in a shabby inn, or a little fun with a lady of the night.

My favorite grades are EF and AU because they have much details on the coins. I don't know if they would still have stories to tell, even though they are slightly circulated. Sometimes I don't mind F-VF.

The second one is an images of Frank Delano Roosevelt.. The 3rd coins they stick together..and joined in One Dime Planchet..
Then if the dime could ever talk. He will scream loud GET OUT of my PROPERTY Lincoln !!!!

 

Wow, that's a great story too.. Mine is a little different.. These coins ( My Avatar )make me become interested the reality of his word..
