This coin is proof like but it may be a proof. It is mirror like in the fields but dont see high contrast between the field and device. What grade and do you think? it is a proof?

Looks like a typical brilliant Proof to me. I'd say a 64.

And not all Proofs have any contrast, only the cameo examples do.

Your half dollar is definitely a proof. As far as grading, I would go PF64 or PF65.

Very nice proof, I'd say 64; however what is the dark thin line on the reverse between the motto and bell?

Im not sure. I really did not see that until you mention it. I took a closer look and it is not a scratch. I got this coin today and it was in a 2x2 cardboard holder.

I will say that this coin will grade PF-65 at NGC, maybe the same at PCGS.

I think the strike is way too weak for a 65. Proofs are not graded the same way business strike coins are and quality of strike plays a much larger part.

It looks like a typical weak strike for the 1959 series. 1959 was the last year that the original master die would be used, so many Franklins were struck weakly. Cameos for this series are very rare because of the techniques used up until the 70's to create them. I've been reading up on Franklins. Sorry, if you knew all of this. It helps me to learn by writing it out. I love this one. I have a '59 proof as well. No cameo though. It's interesting how much easier it is to find cameos after 1959 though. Not that it's easy, but easier.
