Lincoln cent error?

Hello everyone: I have a question. I have a 1985 lincoln cent that I believe is a proof coin with cameo. What puzzels me that it is a silver coin and I have always seen such coins in copper. Could this be a mint error? Thanks, Doug

It was likely plated for some reason but it would be helpful if we could see a picture to at least judge whether it is actually a proof.

What makes you think it is a Proof coin? Only San Francisco produced Proof coins in 1985 and they all have an 'S' mintmark. Does your Lincoln Cent have an 'S' mintmark or not? (If not then it is not a Proof.)

This coin does have the the S mint mark and it is a cameo and is a very striking silver. Also it is not magnetic. Everything about this coin is striking and the edge show no copper. Maybe it's missing the copper plate?? But we really need pics.

 

Given the hands-on minting of proofs, it's almost impossible for an unplated planchet to go through the process. Same for an off metal, non-cent planchet. If it is a cent proof, the only explanation is that it has been plated.
