Hey guys. Lately i have been really interested in early pre-1982 commemoratives. As a resident of maryland i thought what better way to feed my new interest then to buy a maryland tercenterary commemorative. They are readily available in pcgs ms65 for under 300 and that is just my price range right now. Do yoou guys think tis coin would be a good investment? Since i havent been in coins for too long im not vety firmiliar with coin trends. Do these coins tend to go up in price? I woukd also love to see pictures of some of your guys early commemoratives. Thanks in advance for all your wonderful feedback! Happy collecting! -Ryan

I have a 1934 Maryland Commemorative that I bought in 1980 and just got it back from PCGS in a PCGS Secure slab. They graded it MS64. It's a nice original coin that I can guarantee hasn't been messed with (dipped) since 1980 when I bought it. Here is a picture I took of it with my iPhone.

I have this coin, along with 3 other PCGS graded classic commemorative for sale in the Coin Talk For Sale Section at

If you leave "investment" out of the mix, then you're sure to have a good time collecting these earlier issues Ryan. The values on these goes up and down like the tide water. Buy 'em because you like 'em and not because they're going to appreciate in value down the trail. Grab an old Red Book from the eighties to get an idea of what these coins were going for back then. Many times you will see that the prices back then are more expensive in comparison to what you can pick one up for today. Now I know we don't rely on Red Book to give us an up to the minute price on any given issue, but it can be used as a basis for figuring out what things went for during an particular time frame. Here's an example.....In the 1987 Red Book an 1936 York County Maine Tercentenary is listed at $975 in MS-65. I recentley picked one up in January (PCGS '65) for $231. "That Smarts" for the poor fellow that bought back at that time paying at or near such a price. If you are patient you can pick up a lot of classic commem's for a fraction of what they used to go for. OK. Enough pontificating. Here's my "Maryland".......

You hit the nail on the head green18. I paid $350 for my Maryland back in 1980, it's worth around $200 today.
