NE Threepence found?

Discussion in 'US Coins Forum' started by cookiemonster12, Aug 6, 2011.

  1. Hey guys, I made a trip to the bank today, and found the strangest thing in the reject area of the penny arcade. I checked the redbook, and it appears to be the NE Threepence. It's about 20mm across and weighs 4.66 grams, and it sounds like silver. I know that it's probably too good to be true, but I still wanted to hear what you folks think

It is hard to see details in your photos but the rough surfaces - especially around the 'NE' stamp - make the coin look like it was cast. My guess it is a replica, probably pre-HPA.

Definitely a replica. Too round, the punches aren't right, and 20 mm is probably too large.

What an awesome and interesting find! It is in excellent condition. Any idea as to its value?

Likely a replica. Redbook lists the mintage as "unique" ... with no values for any grade. But would'nt that have been the find of a lifetime !

Ahhhh, gotcha. That's what makes it a law that you need to have COPY on it, I assume. Thanks.
