I am just curious how long it takes other people to get their coins when ordering from an on line dealer. Not E Bay, but a dealer. I really like this guy I am using and trust his grades and prices, but it is taking two weeks on the average after each order. Also when I place the order, I usually get a notice back saying he did not have some and was crediting me that amount. Now before I confirm the order I am asking him to verify he has all of them in stock. If not I add something else. I like to balance my on line purchases with going to the coin shop. It's a nice balance. Again I am just curious what other people are experiencing.
A lot depends on the size of the dealer's inventory, his volume of business and whether he has additional staff to assist him. Also, is he operating out of his home or does he have a B&M location? If he is operating out of his home, it's possible that he keeps his inventory at another secure location. You also have to consider his physical location in relation to the nearest postal facility. Some dealers live in the far outskirts of a town and the PO is a 30+ mile drive. Instead of making the trip as soon as an order is placed, they will routinely make the trip just once a week. One dealer in France that I use lives in the Paris suburbs and I get his shipments in 10 days. Another dealer in France that I use has a Paris mailing address, but he lives an hour away, so his shipments take 2-3 weeks. The bottom line is that if you are happy with the coins you get from him and they are reasonably priced & accurately graded, I wouldn't make too much of a deal about it. Chris
All the dealers I do online business with ship the same day I order and I receive the items within 2-4 days.
I am happy and will not change, I was just curious. That's why I do both the on line and the local coin shop. I have a nice stram of new purchases coming in and I have ample time to do the coin thing and experiance with them before they go in to my intercepts. BTW the on line guy is a B&M as well.
Yes - there are a couple of online dealers I have used that do the same thing. They smaller ones don't always have the time to keep their online inventory up to date. Then I prefer to use paypal online with a CC, a couple of these don't accept credit cards or paypal period - they don't get much of my business. This is mainly because I do not like writing a check and waiting for it to clear(before they ship). I still search their online inventory, looking for a variety I might need. All of the biggies I use, like HJB, I deal with directly and 3 - 5 business days I have my order.
This, plus it also depends on how far away the dealer lives from you, and what method of shipping you two have agreed on. First class USPS takes longer than 2 day or 1 day business, etc.
I'm just curious about the type of dealer you are purchasing from. Is he big or small, full time or a second income, coin dealer or everything under the sun? These factors can definitely affect time and service quality. For example, I buy semi-regularly from an online dealer from Texas (I live in Wisconsin). Three to four days is pretty much standard. He is a full time medium size dealer. Not sure if he sells other things, but the site is just coins/ bullion. Never ordered anything he was out of stock. The site is accurate as to what is in inventory in my experience. Hope this helps.
