1960 D die clash penny I got from a coin collecting merit badge at the 2011 summer fun show in Orlando. Why is the coin like that and is there any value for this error? Thanks!
The coin is "like that" because the dies were struck with no planchet between them...therefore one die left a n impression on the opposite die. Every coin afterwards had that impression or die clash mark struck onto it. As for value, I would guess between $5-10.
I'd imagine part of "States of America". If you look at the coin that is the part that touch directly.
Not everybody is online 24 hrs. a day. Like right now, you're not on line. The best thing to do is make your post and wait patiently. Especially on weekends when people are camping, fishing, doing yard work, visiting friends and relatives, or some may be working. Eventually, someone will respond. As for your clash, I'm not sure but someone may be able to do an overlay for you.
This is a tilted die clash, a type of die clash that is typical of 1960 and 1960-D small date cents. More info can be found on www.maddieclashes.com.
Value would be related to the strength of the clash. This is not a particularly strong example, so I would hazard a guess of a few dollars.
